Jeez this project (Mamiya) is getting complicated! 🙁 I'm sure glad I'm not paying somebody on the clock to do this. 🙁

The loose/sticky shutter was only part of the mess. I'm actually thinking it would be better to start looking for another sample of this and either use this one for spare parts or make 1 working one out of 2 bad ones. Lots of corrosion on the underside of the battery case and the switch, but I can take care of that ...

But anyway, has anybody had any luck replacing or repairing the semi-silvered beam splitter mirror in the rangefinder unit? What I thought at first was something like a fingerprint on the front lens of the viewfinder is actually a worn section on the beam splitter mirror. 🙁 I know this one is not salvageable. 🙁

Has anybody had any luck either repairing these with the semi-reflective mirror foil (as explained on "another network") or cutting a generic beam splitter mirror to size?

Thanks again, gang. 🙂

You can buy the beam splitter mirror below. It's the first one on the list> 50/50.

That looks like something that will work. A little glass cutting involved, but I'm fairly handy with things like that. 🙂

Do you (or anybody) know if this newer one is less vulnerable to flaking or rubbing off of the mirror surface?

Thanks. 🙂

Give me the size, I may have something here.

Ok, I got it to where I could measure it. It's very close to 13mm x 22mm. If you've got something that will work, I would be more than happy to pay you for it. If not, I'm sure I can cut one from the Edmund generic one.

Looking at it more closely, it looks like somebody definitely tried to "clean" it, as it looks like a wipe-off of the mirror coating.

It's actually usable, the smudge is just off to the right of the center, and if I look to the left a bit, I can focus with it. I've got the electronics straightend out (I think, knocking on wood) so it looks like this one will be usable (again, knocking on wood) as soon as I get some of the minor stuff fixed.

Thanks much. 🙂
