That Panasonic gm1 looks pretty good to me

http://www.littlebigtravelingcamera.com/?p=4183#more-4183

The gx7 is not much bigger. If only the gm had optional evf. The gx7 w/ that compact 12-32 zoom would make a great travel kit. These shots were taken w/ the better 45f1.8 at iso 2000. These new m43 sensors have improved a lot.

Had them side by side on the counter at the store last weekend. The GM1 is teensy compared to the GX7! It's truly small ... :)

I don't think there could be any space for the EVF coupling in that little body. To me, this camera is an ideal mount for the standard 12-32 zoom or the 14mm f/2.5 lens, or the Olympus BCL 14 and upcoming 8 fisheye. Anything else seems over-large for it (although of course other lenses would work.)

i think the flash sync of 1/50 kills it for me, but if it comes down in price like most panasonics do, it would be worth considering for sure. they have made it so small that even the 20/1.7 causes the body not lay flat.

I would love to c that 12-32 sold separately. I have the Olympus 12-50 that came w/ my em5, I think my old Panasonic 14-45 from my gf2 is slightly better (plus it is too big). I understand why it has to be that big for the weatherproof support..

Guess I gotta go check out the gx7 and gm1 side by side as well Godfrey.

The GM1 will make nice travel set with the new Panasonic/Leica 15mm/1.7 and Olympus 25/1.8 lenses.

The question is however : will Panasonic sell the black body in the US or will it have to be imported from the UK or Canada etc.

My pocketable camera is a Nex-7 with a 35mm Summicron, alternatively I mount a 50mm collapsible Canon Serenar f:1.9

I suspect there will soon be a model above the GM1 that has a built-in EVF like the LF1. They're so close in size it just makes sense.

Also, they need to make a slim version of the 20/1.7.

The GM1 with the optional grip isn't much larger without it. The 20/1.7 fits perfectly. Even the 7-14 has a nice balance to it when the grip is on the body. I bought mine from Japan because I wanted the black body. It's an awesome little camera. I shoot a lot with my iPhone so no vf, or evf isn't a deal breaker for me.

Oh, about the flash. Bounce it and it works great indoors.

...or the Oly Body Cap lens!

IMO, that one is a hell of a little camera. Also, it has decent video so for an amateur it can fullfil the needs of two devices in one.
Now, if they could put IBIS in it... Would be killer. Imagina a 5 axis IS for that with a 20 1.7. Perhaps it would suck so much light in that a small black hole is created.
:D

...or the Oly Body Cap lens!

Methinks they could do a Tessar type lens based on it. A là MS Perar Triplet. f4, small, AF.

I'm quite happy with my EPL2 but, it's not small enough. Maybe a few years down the road I'd get a GM1 or sibling.

The 20/1.7 is a little too wide to use the camera on a tripod or rest flat on a table.

The 14, 17/2.8 and 45/1.8 will all fit as will the rumored 25/1.8.

I'd love if Panasonic made a 25/2.8 pancake to go with the camera... since I am super depressed that Oly didn't do it.

The P20 has a diamter of 63mm, the Sig 30 61mm and the little kit zoom 56mm. From photos, you don't have much room beyond the kit zoom dimensions to work with. Of the others I own, P14=56mm, O17/2.8= 57mm and O45=56mm.

Yeah laying flat on a table is an issue.. I normally don't use tripod, so I think my p14 p20, s30 and s60 will compliment the little 12-32 well if I decide to pick this camera up.

Since this guys shoots w/ different camera systems from Canon dslrs, Ricoh GR, Fuji X cameras, etc.. His review does a bit of a comparison between them.. An interesting read. Man once he put that gm1 next to the fx100, I realized how small that camera really is. My wife use the fx100 as her p&s.

For me, if I were to buy it, I would most likely use it w/ my pany 20 as my travel camera.

Stumbled on this over at getdpi forum...

The compact 12-32 zoom on the gx7. The shots look pretty good to me.

The 12-32 looks to be very good. When I tried one on my GX7 last year I wasn't able to focus. The firmware to allow focus control with the GX7 had not been released at that time. The lens did work well on the unserialized preproduction GM1. The only thing I found lacking was a focus ring on the lens barrel. Manual focus is accomplished with the thumbwheel on the GX7. Preferring MF I don't think this amazing little lens will be on my must have list.

Its an incredible camera, which is why I bought one. A real pocket rocket. Great IQ and, with a few compromises, punches well above its weight class.

it will be interesting to see how the proposed 15/1.7 fits on the camera, the aperture ring will definitely help handling
