I took Bigfoot and the new 90mm Elmarit-M out today. All black including the Leitz half case and strap. We were in a shop full of folks and I had just finished the roll of Provia 100F in Bigfoot when a lady asked,

"Were you filming?"

"I was. Until I ran out of film."

"That's a beautiful camera. Isn't it wonderful what they can do today?"

"Thank you."

Beautiful camera? She obviously didn't know that she was looking at the Ugly Ducking of Leica Land.

Isn't it wonderful what they did in 1971? You bet! Still wonderful today.

A young, cute, hot person serving lunch also noticed how nice Bigfoot looked. She learned all about a lot of cameras in a photography class in junior high. ;)

I guess I should go out among the holiday shoppers more often.

Ironically, they didn't ask, "Is that a Hasselblad?"

Typically, people who've seen my M5 and who aren't steeped in the M5 Ugly Duckling BS have told me it's a cool camera, which it is. It looks very cool, very funky.

Most recently I had someone look at my M5 and ask "what brand of camera is that? I had one just like it. It was a Yashica"

Not this time

Not this time

Still saving up for my M5 :p you shoot have take a pic of that hot girl serving lunch

She was serving my wife and I. Nuff said.

I must admit that Bigfoot looks very handsome with the sleek black 90mm Elmarit-M. If the photos match the looks of the lens, it's a keeper.

I must admit I always loved the look of my M5 when It had a 90mm Summicron on it ... they really went well together!

A Rolleiflex does OK as a chick magnet too.

I wonder if it's based on the same mental thing that causes so many females to be attracted to older guys?

This is why an SLR is superior Al ... a 200mm prime has them absolutely swooning!

Now... I'm really curious about how Bigfoot looks with a 90mm 'cron. Is that the newer, third version you put on it or the previous one with the 48mm filter size and two-part built-in lens hood?

I personally believe it would look pretty cool with an Elmarit or the third-version Pre-Asph 90mm 'cron, but that's me...

Early version with the two part hood ... I sold the camera to FrankS ages ago but still have the lens which works a treat on my Ikon!

That's one big gun... and two tones of black! :)

Thanks a lot, Keith! I do appreciate it, especially since I had a hard time visualizing these two bits of gear together.

BTW, that's a really good shot. :)

My M2 attracted a few babes on its first outing. Nothing like this happened with a SLR. They chatted me up and expressed interest in carrying one for a retro fashion look. When I told them the price tag for the 'older-than-me-camera', the expressions on their faces were priceless. :D

There's a bit of a story to this shot!

Luigi stumbled over it on my flickr stream and nicked it for his web site ... to his credit he was most aplogetic about doing so when I queried this act of 'piracy' and gave me credit for the pic on his web page! :p

He should have given you a free case! After all, Keith, you obviously had a director of lighting, grips, set designer, etc. to pay for when you made the shot.

Funny you should mention that ... I ordered a grip case from him for my Zeiss Ikon when I bought it and one for a Konica Hexar arrived by mistake. He told me to keep it rather than return it and sent the correct case for the Ikon a day or so later!

At the time I happened to have a Hexar RF so it worked out pretty well! :D

Keith,

Bigfoot is tres jealous. A faster 90 and that drop dead gorgeous Lugi creation? That's a tough act to follow.

That was a nice M5 ! FrankS sold it to me and I sold it to ... another famous person here. ;)

I love very much my Leica M5. Last August, in London, i walked around (on average 15 km a day on foot), with my M Leicas at neck (M7 with Summicron 35 goggled, MP with Summicron 50 DR, M5 with Summicron 90 TS plus a CL with VC 15/4.5 M mount). The more ammired Leica M was the M5. A british photographer, with a Nikon D90 DSLR, has me asked to take two pictures, while i carried my M5 at eye. The M5 it's a true wonderful camera!
Ciao.
Vincenzo
