That's what I call crazy!

Supply and demand I guess. A rare, original, NIB accessory at relatively hefty price is not something unheard really.

Hoods are some the most overexaggerated prices of camera items, silly really camera hoods are NOT rare, though collectors want you to THINK so, something boxed is always going to bring some stupid price, but I myself have put a $60 limit on any hood I want/need
(I still think that`s pretty steep for a piece of ring shaped metal -
BE IT LEITZ, CANON OR NIKKOR, to me it doesn`t matter)
but, people seem to forget these things were only $2 to $4 items when new....

The great fun of using this equipment is the passion of the search for all the good old stuff and patience is the key to finding reasonable deals for these things
(lens filters are the same way *I`m a big filter fan of them on vintage lenses*) 😀

That is a plastic hood.

OMG! That's US$76 and change!

That's more than I paid for the camera! (Well, for one of them I paid a bit more for the black one.)

It is a good idea to have that flat top so you can still compose and focus easily, but still, $76 for a lens hood! 😕

(Yes, yes, I know. Economics 101. Willing buyer and willing seller meet at the price point.)

I agree. Also, really a matter of perspective. Overseas bidders and our weak dollar. Now we know what our crazy bidding looked like 'back in the days.' 😛

If you need a hood try the Hama Hoods. They are square from Germany and come with a cap. Maybe, not quite as good as the $76 original but works just the same. Runs around $20. (49mm for the Canonets w/a little felt to tighten them up.)
