Hello all!

I just received the 28mm lens for the G2, as well as the GG-1 hood that goes with it.

With both my SLR lenses and the Planar 45/2, I am comfortable storing the lenses in my bag face down without the front cap and just the hood on. (The bag I carry most often is a Tamrac Adventure 7, for what it's worth.)

However, the GG-1 hood is not as deep as the GG-2 or the SLR lens hoods and I am a bit concerned for the front element. The front cap, unfortunately, does not go fit in with the hood attached, and attaching the hood every time I want to use the lens is a bit tedious.

I would like to hear your experiences/practices with this lens/hood combination. Would you leave the 28's front-element unprotected (in a clean bag, of course) with just the hood on. Is there a deeper hood that you prefer to use?

Thanks for your help!

There is a cap for the hood- fits all the G hoods- GK-54 I believe is the number. Originals are occassionally on ebay, and a Chinese copy is almost always available there as well. (I've no connection to sellers)

I think I'd check the local grocery store to see what kind of product has a slip on plastic lid that might fit--take the lenes hood with you to see. If you find something buy it. Something similar to a Pringles chips can lid in the right size would work fine.

Thank you all for your replies! I'll look into a GK-54 original/knockoff... but first I'll try and see if any of my local camera stores have some used caps that might fit over the hood.

There are a couple of those hood caps on ebay right now- both originals and copies. Prices are lower than usual on the Contax made ones.

I do not have my camera here, but I have push on lens caps for all my Contx G lenses, which fit tightly on the outside of the lens hood.
