The Nokton is an excellent perfomer - certainly not what I would call flat. I can only compare it to Leica Summicrons (dual range and current) and quite honestly it is difficult to tell the images apart except that perhaps the Nokton is marginally less "smooth" when opened up, but there again you can't shoot the 'crons at f1.5...
The Nokton is quite a big lens, but not heavy and it focusses very smoothly. You might find the Sonnar and Planar focus closer (I don't know). The Nokton only focusses to 0.85 -0.9 m or so. Not really an issue for me, but the 0.7m close focus of the current Summicron is quite a lot closer in practice.
