This is a bit of a continuation of the last post in the sense that it deals with the what and why of news photography. This is a video recording of a panel that met at the Bronx Documentary Center some 5 years ago, but what motivates news photographers was true long before this was recorded and will hold true into the future. If you read the news, it's good information to have.
(The BDC was founded by Mike Kanfer who has probably covered more wars than any of us, is not only teaching South Bronx kids photography, but getting them in to college and is now using the facilities of the organization to help Bronx residents during the pandemic. And, yes, the South Bronx is a tough neighborhood.)

Bill, I respect and admire you. But, dammit, I'm too old to spend any of the time I have left watching videos.

Bill, I am very much enjoying this video as it goes to the heart of my interest in photography as a communication tool.
It appears there may not be very many of us here who are more interested in photography than cameras, but don't forget about us.

Doesn't work for me: old guys trading 'war' stories with terrible audio. Cheers, OtL

A fascinating video. I've been intending to get up to the BDC for years. Then COVID. But after that...
