Paul, the jaw bone apparently washed up on state property and the site where it sits now is a state park. I suppose if it washed up on a public beach, it would be fair game like any other flotsam/jetsam. I believe in this case that the entire whale washed up on the beach more or less intact. I imagine it must have 30-40 feet long. Probably an extra large recovery operation that one.
This one is my wife, who washed up on the beach completely intact. She would probably say that she salvaged me. No debate on that.
