I thought we were through with ice pictures here this year, but I got up this morning to 40 knot winds, a temp of 20F with wind chill of 7F. A bundled up walk down by the shore and the tide and waves had decorated the shoreline cedars with icicles and tinsel. These first two were taken with my iPhone since I didn't have a camera with me.

I decided to go back and get my K5IIS with a Mamiya Sekor 135/2.8, early chrome nose version, so I didn't have to get right down on the icy shore. It was cold and slippery as hell, but worth it.

I played with this one a bit in Luminar Neo, just for fun. Back in the 40's and 50 this week so this may be the last of this, but it is Maine. I dicovered that the Pentax K5 had trouble indicating focus on ice; that my eyes were watering from the wind which didn’t help, and the wind was so strong things were moving, and that didn’t make it easy either.

@oldhaven - nice idea for a thread. While it might get plenty cold there, you happen live in an incredibly beautiful part of the country. My ex’s father was one of 14 siblings who grew up on a farm in Eastern Maine. As my ex’s father was the only one to leave the Northeast, we wound up making many visits to New England over the years to see family. It was always a good time.
Back when I graduated from college I went to work for a Canadian company (Bell Northern Research) in their Texas-based lab. New employees were required to participate in a weeklong overview program held near the headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. I was sent up there in the winter of 1987. Though the weather wasn’t a total shock for me as I had grown up in Illinois, it was definitely cold. I happened to be there during their annual “Winterlude” festival. Among other things, we rented ice skates and skated along the frozen canals. And there were numerous ice sculptures that were to be judged as part of the festivities, some of them were very impressive. It was really quite something. Too bad I didn’t have a camera with me! Naturally I’m hoping that we have some members based in or near Ottawa who will join this thread, perhaps even sharing photos of the Winterlude complete with frozen canals and ice sculptures.
