The Bessa You Are Dreaming About

My wife and OMs are out of question.

Yet I would really like you to address the issue of the fed 2 plus Cosina Heliar. I am truly ignorant of Leica mounts and I am somehow afraid of uncompatibilities. From this point of view my question is real, is it too risky the try ?

Cheers,
Ruben

Reg your OMs J/K, Ruben ...

AFAIK, the 40 and 35 Noktons have M mounts because the rear element
is too large to fit into a screw mount.

Further more, the M mount has 1mm less registration distance than the
LTM, therefore adapting an LTM to M is possible, but not vice versa.

This doesn't answer though if the 40 Nokton can be used for a fixed
lens RF - I'm sure it can, but then not so sure if it is much better than
one of the other fast 40 fixed RFs. On the other hand, the 40 Nokton
on CL or CLE is not so big either ....

Roland.

....I am wondering if you are paying your wife back proportionally, too.

Now that I am relieved from the burden I can answer you in detail regarding my wife:

Plain experience has showed me the best wisdom is "to pay" her in advance.

Am I allowed a full frame canon sensor?
:D

Rover; I find the R3a the easiest RF to focus I’ve ever had, I still don’t see what difference the EBL makes to the user

Yes, but for me the widest usable lens was a 50mm (eyeglasses). By having a longer base length finder you can use fast lenses without the higher magnification, therefore allow the use of wider lenses. The ZI RF/VF is a wonder for example.

And yes, to Roland's point, I would like a less expensive ZI. No need to pay for the brand name when a Bessa is also a high quality camera.

To me the only thing that Bessa R to R4A/M bothers me is the viewfinder. Can Mr. K produce a zoom viewfinder from 15 to 90 ?

And a 10 mega pixel digital back for less than US$500 will be very nice too.

I was trying to say it’s the magnification not EBL that matters to the user, short EBL is more a problem for the manufactures, and yes a 1:1 finder with 35 frame lines you could see easily would do nicely thank you
:)

I do have to say adding external LEDs to the current line of Bessas is a great idea. I would add that you can turn them off or on to the request as there are times when I do not want the world to see me. Perhaps if they were on the back of the camera this might not be that much of an issue. Great idea though.

having a long base rf means you don't need a high mag finder, so you can focus a long fast lens accurately while retaining wide framelines.

I'd have no reason in the world to pass on a Bessa if it had a long base rf a la the ZI. But at this point, I have my choice - either a ZI or a Bessa, depending on my lens preference. Given the cost of the new R4's, there is no reason to think the price of a long base Bessa would be much cheaper than a ZI anyway. If I didn't want to spend that money, there's always used M bodies. So I guess I don't see any reason to consider the current Bessa line-up anything but what it should be. Competing with Zeiss on price wouldn't make any sense, whereas right now they are more of a complimentary product than a direct competitor to either Zeiss or Leica.

I just wish they would keep making the T, except this time put a viewfinder on it with selectable frame lines, keep the rangefinder separate. The R viewfinder along with the T rangefinder..
Putting meter LEDs on the outside of all the bessa bodies would be wonderful too.
This is a good idea,damn I'd buy 2 of em...........Robin

i´d like to see a 6x9 Folder again from Voigtländer ;-) put a 2.8 / 100 heliar or 4/50 Color skopar on the puppy, use modern bellows materials and please couple the RF to the focusing mechanism.....that´s the Bessa I´d want Mr. K to build! a light portable foldable camera that beat´s the hell out of any DSLR :-D

I concur with this point. It scares the crap out of me to have to adjust this thing.

My .02. Put the strap lugs on the side of the body.

Yep, these two would make a great deal of difference to me in terms of the two most annoying things that I have at present with my R3A...

now there is an idea, but make the front mount interchangeable and offer like...3 lenses, a ultra wide (something like the 12 or 15mm of similar reach on the end) a normal, then a medium tele!

Ruben: For the fixed lens 40, just get a couple of Olympus 35SP... I thought you had one at one time?

Not f1.4, I grant, but f1.7 is very close, about 1/2 stop. Shutter is not quite as silent as some other leaf shutter cameras, but the VF is extremely good and the metering is wonderful.

Heck, I would love that!!
