Hey friends. This was my first trip out to the Playa. And it was a wonderland indeed. I hope everyone had a fantastic time that went.

Here are some shots that I recently scanned (all 6x9). I promise, there is absolutely minimal post-processing (very little cropping/exposure adjustment). I know it looks like these were put through an instagram filter but it's really all from the dust storm.

Also, I know there is a lot of dust on some of the negs. Trust me, I tried everything to keep it out but the little stuff just got everywhere.

Thank you! Yea, I think I scored as well. I highly recommend going, not only for the photos of course 🙂.

Here are some more:

Fantastic photos - a really high quality set. I particularly love the use of "negative space" (literally "negative space" in this case) on the last photo.

Not sure if that last one was on purpose! I think if I had my way she would be a little further in the frame. Anywho, the dust does give a very pleasant background and the gradations of it are nice. I'm going to add more photos. Still getting some developed and scanned but more are on the way.

can i tell you, there are millions of really, really boring burning man pictures. it's amazing to me how what must be one of the great shooting opportunities on the planet turns into something... uninteresting, cliche. omg, people in makeup and costumes. omg, big things in the desert. omg, dancing. omg, bicycles. you rarely get a sense of wanting to be in a place and instead get some weird fetishization of exoticism for its own sake.

your photographs are anything but uninteresting, and they do a great job of making me want to go to where they were taken. full marks. the atmospheric quality is lovely and the people are captured doing things that make me curious about what else was going on.

These are amazing. ALL of them! I've not been able to attend, but I've always thought it would be an interesting experience. What you've captured is a vintage circus/carnival atmosphere that I've not seen in any other images of the event. Well done!

Thank you for the kind words, everyone. If you have the burning desire you can get great photos at a McDonalds. But a dust storm and lots of artwork gives one ample opportunity.

In terms of the event itself - there are also many uninteresting cliches people will mention. But Burning Man is so much more. There is so much to do/see/experience there that you really can turn the trip into anything you want. Combine that with people who are radically inclusive and accepting and you get a little slice of freedom seldom seen anywhere else.

I highly recommend for everyone to attend 🙂

More photos to come.
