The business of being creative...

At first glance I thought the title read " The bu**s**t of being creative..."

Apropos I guess.

I wonder if professional photographers feel the same way when pushed for deadlines, news stories, studio shoots, and weddings. Vs those who do it for a hobby.

I build websites and reporting applications. And while I have release schedules it is not uncommon to hear me say,... "nobody dies if the site isn't perfect day one". On the other hand, I have a contingency plan incase I get hit by a bus.

Thanks for the link. You work in advertising? I do.

Worse sometimes... :)

On the other hand, I have a contingency plan incase I get hit by a bus.

For years we just told clients, "everything is written in PERL so you can find someone if we (two guys) are hit by a bus." Then when we moved to Ruby on Rails, we weren't so sure. One client we parted ways with, never really got the new site running properly, even with git files.

This is excellent. Much of what he says rings true to just about any creative industry. Thanks for the link.

Thank you for the link.
Wonderful writing, and painfully close-to-home truths.
It would take very little editing to convert this to "40 years in the life of an engineer."

..... Countless late nights and weekends, holidays, birthdays, school recitals and anniversary dinners were willingly sacrificed at the altar of some intangible but infinitely worthy higher cause. It would all be worth it in the long run…
This was the con. Convincing myself that there was nowhere I’d rather be was just a coping mechanism......

"It is a universal truth that all artists think they a frauds and charlatans, and live in constant fear of being exposed."

A truer statement was never spoke.
