The force was too great...

I have to admit that I have done it, bought a Leica, M4. It had been listed a few times on Oz ebay without attracting a bid; I contacted the seller (who turns out to be a member on DSLRexhange) and made an offer; he accepted. The seller had been given assurances about a recent full CLA, which turned out never to have occurred, and we agreed on a price adjustment. So the camera is off to Leica's Australian service agent next week for its first service.

As you can see from the pics, it's a user not a safe-queen. I like that. For the time being it will wear CV and Canon lenses. The Canon lens came some time ago from a forum member, who might just recognise the lens cap he supplied with the lens!

I won't be abandoning my Canons any time soon; if anything handling the M4 has given me a new appreciation for just how good the P is - probably equal in all but the viewfinder/rangefinder department. For me the 35mm framelines in the M4 are just a little easier to see than the 50mm framelines in the P. So the M4 will be better for me with the 35mm, my favourite lens.

This place is bad... I'm learning all sorts of things I used to be blissfully ignorant of.

the force is not strong in this one...

congrats chris, i think the 4 is a fine leica.
if i ever were to re turn to the darkside, i'd go for an m2 and then an m4.

if you turn for good, you canons will always have a home in canada.

Congratulations. Canon lens on a Leica body, nice setup.

Some day I'll add an M4 and a Canon P.

Right now, the Canon's are running ahead of the Leica's.

Thanks to Obi Joe Kenobi.

Nice camera. I casually bid on an M4 last week in similar user condition, it ended at $850. I like the M4 lots. If I were to get another M the 4 would definitely be the one, unless I decide to trade in the M6, then I would replace it with an M7.

Enjoy your new toy, very nice indeed.

Congrats on your M4 purchase. Just so you know, you'll never be the same. I haven't even looked at my Canons (7sZ, L1 and 7) since I bought a new MP last November (though the Canon 50/f1.2 has taken up semi-permanent residence on the Leica). Now go out and take some pictures!.

Thanks guys. No need for new homes for any more Canons just yet Joe, but once Mark Hama is finished with the 2nd P ...

Jim - I really like the 50/1.2 shots in your gallery; more contrasty than I expected and sharper too. Makes me all the more keen to get mine fixed and working properly, if that's possible.
