Just replaced my 4 year old Domke F-6 canvas bag with the new ballistic fabric version. Hopefully this one holds up better.

Yeah the canvas domes do wear out pretty quickly but I can't help but love the look of that ratty drab olive f4.

If my crumpler is anything to go by, the ballistic nylon should me much more hard wearing...

I've had my F-6 for much longer and while it doesn't look new (I've washed it once,) it doesn't look worn at all. Not sure what you're doing with yours! ;)

+1. I have yet to wear out a canvas Domke bag. Nevertheless, the ballistic nylon should wear longer. F6 is a fine bag for M gear!

it took me FOURTEEN Years to get my f-803 looking that ragged! And I almost always had that bag with me.

What was I doing wrong? :)

Going by his website, it seems Ken is a working photojournalist, so it would be fair to say that his camera bag is probably on him almost every single day and being roughed around. My little domke is definitely wearing pretty quickly....

I've carried the thing around just about everyday since November '07. Putting the camera in and out. Switching lenses. Stuffing it to the brim. It's the greatest bag ever.
but the thing has holes in it. I was starting to lose SD cards falling out of the rear pocket. And a hole is slowly growing where the M9 sits. It's getting riskier everyday yo use it. I only hope that the ballistic will soften up with use. It's way too stiff.

I've got an F-2 Ballistic. It was used when I got it, but its close in flexibility to my F3X, now. It goes everywhere with me as well.

They soften up. My black ballistic F6 is pretty comfortable -- fades, but doesn't grow holes like a canvas bag.

I really like the canvas bags but Domke have cheapened their line. The knock-offs from Safrotto are better bags. I have a 23 yr-old F-2 so I have the old canvas & construction to compare.

They both look very nice, unfortunately they both lack a top handle where you can carry the bag with your hand instead of always slinging it on your shoulder..

My ballistic version has been with me for 9 years, pretty worn off. I've tried other replacement, but I think I'll go back to it.
@ Shade; it has (used to?) a shorter strap for you to carry it. Just 'sits' behind the main strap abit.

Just wrap the shoulder strap around your hand a few times. Simple.

domke sells a short strap that is used as a handle...works fine.

Oddly my original F-6 came with that strap. The new one did not. I never liked it so ditched it. My original F-6 also had an insert where the dividers were sewn in. That one has long since fallen part and has been replaced by the new style insert which is velcro. That style came with the new F-6.

I'm thinking of getting a Domke f-6 while I'm visiting the US but not sure where I could find one. So where in LA or the near county's could I find a domke bag? And how much is it approximately?
