The dp0 Quattro -- digital xpan ???

Reviving an old thread. But I am curious: how did the lenses on the xpan behave? Did they produce a very large image circle, and so the tops and bottoms of the image weren't actually used? Just a long, horizontal swatch through the center? Seems to me that with the 21:9 framing option, calling this a small-format xpan isn't out of line.

Xpan lenses had a image circle that barely covered the aspect ratio. The 30 and 45 mm needed a center filter to correct the edge vignetting. The 90 was hardly noticeable as I remember. I never used a center graduated filter on the 90.

Interesting. I don't like cropping/reframing in post, and I don't like adjusting where the center of the lens is in a photo. So these Quattros are perfect for playing with different aspect ratios as they're selected before framing. DP0 is in the cards for me, I think.

Is there any other digital camera with these sorts of options? I know my Sony has 16:9, but not much more, and I'd never shoot in that ratio, anyway.

I have such a love-hate relationship with the Quattros, but the functionality is about as good as a digicam gets.

Been shipping in U.S. for a while now.. I am planning to get one, but waiting for first price drop..

Thanks Gary, I just look for it in a few shops but no one has anything, I'm just curious about this camera...

Well, I did it. I was quite intrigued by this post about the dp0 as a digital xpan. Last month I finally bought a dp0 and sold my Xpan afterwards for different reasons. Just a picture putting them side by side:

I am still learning how to use the dp0, but so far a lot of the negatives that bugged other reviewers - i.e. the grip, slow shooting/writing speed - haven't bothered me as much as I feared. Or maybe I am just dull/not-picky.

I think Google+ re-sampled the following picture when I uploaded it:

Edit: The picture above is not post-processed and a jpeg straight out of the camera.

thanks for posting, look forward to seeing more. this is a camera i might consider if the price comes down as happened with the merrills.

Thanks. Still learning how to use the camera:

Again, not sure what Google+ did to the pictures when I uploaded them...
