yes, I often find myself working very close to the subject lately.
I was very lucky with this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/simonsawsunlight/5828578378/ just flicked the lens to 0.7m quickly and took this while walking past him (I was framing through the viewfinder, but no time to check focus or anything). I didn't think it would come out properly at all.

tri-x 400 in ilford ilfotec lc29 1+19 (5:20min not 6:30 because the temperature was ~2°C too high).
all of them are taken with an M2 and 35mm f1.2 nokton.
