Just thought I'd share a link to an interview I did with Europe & Me Magazine about my documentary project, The Europeans.

Dear Damaso,

A backhanded compliment: the pictures are very good, but some suffer from being not very big on a computer screen: a bit subtle for small repro on a low-res medium. The interview, however, is not harmed by the medium and is BRILLIANT.

EDIT: But where are the pictures of the cat and the coffee mug...?

Cheers,

R

Good work Damaso! Europe & Me is a great site: I just hitchhiked from Haugesund (Norway) to Munich with one of the editors to help publicise it. We had ten days and only 50 euros to spend on travel and accommodation. Not so easy. There'll be some entertaining videos of it coming to the site soon. Keep and eye out for 'A Transnational Adventure'.

As european half german half italian living in italy (my father was german and my mother italian) I read with interest the interview and because of actual situation the immigration part is very interesting. And the paralle with Robert Frank work is appropriate. I went to the European site and bookmarked it (just gave a quick look to some pages, impressed by the CERN images, just curious how was difficult for you to get access there) and I'll look with more attention. By the way because me and my wife will be both retired next year I'm planning a long journey trou europe and your pictures can inspire us. Thank for the links, bravo !

Well Roger if you happen to be in Vienna next month you can see some nice big prints in person! I will also be having a show at Webster University next February if your passport isn't in order 😉

Robert getting access to CERN took a few weeks of back and forth but was pretty straight forward since they have a press department. Being a journalist (and a fellow at an art institute at the time) helped a lot. I know they do tours but I think it would be a lot harder for someone who isn't a journalist of some sort to get access like I had. Part of what made that trip special is that they were still building a lot of the experiments and I got to crawl around them, which was pretty cool!

Congrats for both the great work and the interview. Its cool to see a journalist surviving in the face of all the naysayers!

Nice read and nice project...A subject like this can only really be treated from the "outside" as you're doing...

Maybe next trip you would like to investigate the new europe or the pretenders to the union...

Great interview! I was born in Austria my parents were immigrants and you are so very right about this particular "you don't belong to us" ideology some Austrians have...BTW I just noticed afterwards that you visited my exhibition last November
