The F1.5 optimized C Sonnar experience ?

Does it mean that the Noktpn and C-Sonnar is very similar to the 50 Lux ASPH?

I think x-ray wrote that CV Nokton 50/1.5 is quite close to Summilux-M 50/1.4 Asph.

No, that's the "Internets" misremembering misquotes. E. Puts declared the 50mm Nokton just as good, if not better than the 50mm Summilux pre-asph, but declared the 50mm Summilux ASPH as far superior.

I've seen shots taken with the Nokton. It's very good. But, it flares like a paper-cut with lime juice, in very contrasty situations. So does the 35mm Ultron.

I like the 35mm Ultron far better than the 50mm Nokton.

Will the Sonnar-C then give a different look compared to the 50 Lux ASPH? I'm asking because I often read of 35mm Lux and 35mm IV being of different signatures, IV having more bokeh. In the same vein, I'm looking for a lens that has a different signature, say a Sonnar-C to the 50mm Lux ASPH.

the zm sonnar c has a unique look to the images it creates.
a soft around the edge look.
there is a flickr group with m mount lenses that has zm sonnar shots.

I have never shot the 50 Summilux, but I have shot lots of other good "normal" lenses, The C Sonnar has nothing to do with them, it is a hybrid between a modern lens - and I do not say Summilux, let's say between a Planar, and a fast lens from the 1930. The f5.6 marks the beginning of a rendering like a Planar, any wider aperture draws as a mix of a 1930 lens and a modern lens, so you have a completely unreal and "abrupt" bokeh, and a pretty sharp, or at least contrasty plane of focus. Go to the M Mount group on flickr and look up the C Sonnar shots, you will understand.

At this point, I think I will wait for a faster "Nocti-Planar" from Zeiss rather than risking a C Sonnar that will only work wide open.

Hmm, it would be interesting, if Zeiss will announce for example a ZM Planar 50/1.4 in future. They already have a bigger SLR version of it in different mounts. i agree.
with the zm sonnar you get 2 lenses in one. a more 'romantic' lens and a very sharp lens depending on which aperture is chosen.

I agree with Roger. I love the lens the way it is. I just focus slightly behind what I want sharp. In this case the mesh rather than the chair rail and even at f1.4 it seems to work very well. It's fast becoming my favorite 50. When I take it and my Dual Range, I want for nothing more in that focal length.
