the feel of a camera...

I think it's amazing to read all the good feelings about the X100, nearly 3 years after it's initial release. What other digital camera (with the exception of the glorious RD-1) has ever touched so many hearts?

Since the new firmware is out, it seems that it has had such a renaissance that the 100s is hardly spoken of.

Lovely camera, just makes me want to take pictures like no digital camera ever!

…and the experience it offers the user.

not much real world difference between the fuji xe-1 with the 27mm on it and the fuji x100…very close in size…the x100 feels a bit heavier to me though i have not weighed them…

this may sound odd but i prefer the x100 'experience' to the xe-1/27 experience…even though i cannot explain the difference.

the xe-1 has the ability to accept different lenses on it so it will stay a part of my kit…but i reach for the x100 more…

anyone else in the same boat?
can you explain it?

This is a big reason I have not bought the XE1 (I have an X100).
If I needed a system camera to supplement the X100, though, the XE1 would be very high on the list of choices. Maybe even the Xpro ?? . I love my Nikkor lenses, but Fuji bodies have won my heart.

Believe it or not, even I, someone who admittedly is always on auto, have had just such an experience, though not with the cameras mentioned above.
My epiphany occurred when I held a friend's D80 at a car show while he went to get some coffee induced hydraulic relief. He said I could shoot a few shots if I liked.
10 minutes and 20 shots later my Coolpix 995 was looking at being replaced. I'd never held a camera that felt so much like a glove on my hand until that day.
I've recently put a grip on my M3, and while not quite the same feeling, I think it's closer than it was to that first D80 impression. Now that I've saved a few bucks I might put some film thru it to see if it really has got the feel to it.

An xpro body w/ the metabones speedbooster for Nikon and u can have both if u are ok w/ manual focus.

I think, even though slowly, the manufacturers starts to realize that there are enough market for cameras that goes back to the basics.

X100 is certainly a mold-breaker.
Hopefully the upcoming Nikon DF (or whatever it'll end up being named) will be the next one.

I personally hope that one day a true (Full-frame, Optical VF, Shutter speed dial around lens mount) digital Olympus OM-1 will appear, but ... it'll remain a dream I'm afraid.

Olympus E-1. The best DSLR and one of the best digital cameras ever made IMO. Best ergonomics, best image quality for a 5Mpixel camera, etc. Mine is now 10 years old, still going strong and making superb photographs. Quiet, strong, weather-sealed, etc.

It's a tough camera to beat.
