To Light & Love ...
I think the 'Visual" for me
just boils down to Shadow and Light
and whatever happens to fall in between
I guess I don't chase after 'it' anymore
perhaps just get lost in or fall under
a flicker, a darkness, an all consuming moment
Thats where I am at with photography now
Not sure how long any of it will last...maybe make videos
Certainly it's lovely if You are able to capture something that One can hold dear
if only for a moment
than the mundanity of most day to day existence

This is a good time of year for shadow and light with the sun being so low for us in the northern hemisphere. Great to see all your moody photos Helen. Let’s share some here!

Hi Helen. I guess for me the moment in time is important, but also the process. I love dramatic light and it took me a long while to realise that natural light is the most dramatic of all. That's why I haven't touched flash gear in years. The process bit is me trying to wring every bit of detail out of a 24x36 negative. Skin tones and textures espescially. A version of reality that is my own.

We have nothing but light for 9 months of the year here. So from November and a little past January is really great light for shadows with the sun low from 2:00 PM to 10:00 AM.

For me it's the intersection of the subject, the light, and my vision. The subject by itself is not enough. And it needs to excite me.

Just the other day I took a nighttime tour of a local museum where they collect and restore local buildings dating to the 1800s.
Due to Covid their revenue is dramatically reduced, so they began a series of guided nighttime tours, celebrating the lights of the season.
I am so glad that I decided to participate.

We find "it" wherever we can find it. I love being surprised by a capture.

Thanks for the challenging thought process Helen. Here's what light I saw this morning through the darkroom/laundry window.

How about shadow and light with some juxtaposition, and perhaps a little humor? I could not fight the sun at my back, and the shadow it cast, so I adjusted to it and made the shadow part of the image:

How about reflections too? Maybe light is the essence...

I think photography is very different venue. From pumperios glamour to what is really inside us.
Video is just many frames, per second.

"It" is always there, but we are mostly not able to see it. Chasing never worked for me, but lucky encounters are what keeps photography alive and well and going.
