The First Digital Leica

To me this looks more like something Leica should want to forget and should have never left the prototype stage.

Digital scanning backs and scanning SLRs were common in the 90s and early 00s, being more affordable than single-shot backs, and are still unsurpassed when it comes to high-quality copy work in controlled lighting environment. The still-current Praktica Scan 7000 delivers 400Mp images for instance.

Actually there are a few still in use, with places like museums for documenting the exhibits for instance.
