*Just a rant....

In the U.S., the all-knowing Food Police are coming out of the woodwork. This is hilarious! Sure as hell glad they didn't see me at Oktoberfest with a Bratwurst and a Paulaner.

Ever been to an elementary school to have lunch with your kids or grandkids? I bet not. If you did, did you eat the meals that our kids eat? Smells similar and just about as tasty as a plate of vomit. Healthy? Only if you like to throw up or just decline eating thereby skipping a third of your caloric intake.🙄

Let's see, McDonalds now serves 11 french fries in a "small" portion. Probably individually wrap them eventually. All that does is make the kids buy something else. The apples they give you are awful and usually they don't even supply the caramel dip.

Portions are being minimized at Red Lobster and Olive Garden among others but the prices are not coming down. I am all for smaller portions but not at the same price. I detest McDonald's but let's be real.

Now, salt is being eyed for daily limits. Really? How is that going to be enforced? What is the penalty from the government?

Government is now into our life sustaining act of eating. All it really takes is for one to manage his/her own health. If they don't, they don't. How many people do I see in my neighborhood walking? Maybe 1% under 30 (walking or running) and less than that for those older. How many kids do we see in our neighborhood actually OUTSIDE? None. They are never outside, they are indoors with their computer, games, television, iPod, you name it...so, what's next, Exercise Police? Excrement analysis? How about getting their lazy backsides outside and mowing the lawn instead of having the local landscape guy mowing the lawn weekly for $50/week? How about any kind of exercise at all? Hello...get out of the freaking car every now and then.

A world gone mad.

I wonder if this process is really about a government-corporate alliance to ration food to us. Health care rationing is coming next, and then...perhaps fuel rationing? ... under the guise of carbon foot prints, etc.

I just took kid to McD to show toy sets and explained - you shouldn't eat here, because they serve bad food, loudly play crappy muzak and attract innocent kids with stupid toys. I slapped my little one so she will have negative feeling whenever she will see word McDonalds and then we left to have some good food. Darling, we here in Europe still have real food, we shouldn't eat this.

Well, slap were my imagination but probably that would work.

Have you seen how Micky D's in some places has been forced to at least try to look civilized? In Pecs in Hungary they were forced to take down a lot of their more gruesome plastic signs, which defaced a fine late 19th/early 20th century building.

All we need to do now is to force Credit Agricole (a bank) to do something similar in the village where I live...

I'm all for it, personally. In this country - England - we had a push towards healthy school meals a few years back. And remembering the sh*t I used to get served at school, I totally embrace it. But I loved it at the time because MSG-filled sugary, greasy, salty food is addictive and I didn't know how it was affecting me. I've never been fat, but I definitely was far from healthy. And, unsurprisingly there were a lot of complaints and reactions at the time, including mothers buying takeaway beefburgers for the children and shoving them holes in the fence at lunchtime (which I think is a very irresponsible thing for a parent to be doing, IMO).

The amusing thing is that I, like a lot of people, would like the Anarchist/Libertarian ideal - no government involvement. But I'd rather have government involvement that is in the citizen's interest than corporate advertising and indoctrination that is in the shareholder's interest. And that's what I see a lot of food production to be, personally.

But, for the record, Dave, I'm with you. I think it's absurd that you should get less for the same price, and that healthy food should be priced at a premium. And I also think more people should be encouraged to leave the car behind and get off their arse.... But this isn't the government's fault, and if the government got involved to fix it, I'm sure there'd be even more of an outcry on both sides of the Atlantic.

I'm laid up right now with a knackered foot (judo accident). I've not been able to walk properly for a week and a half, and have basically spent all that time sat around watching TV, editing photos, playing computer games and playing the banjo.

And you know what? It was nice for the first day. By now I'm about ready to kill someone and steal their foot. I honestly don't know how people can live like this.

Each to their own and all that, but I want to spend my Sundays going on long hikes and not sat in front of a screen. :bang:

Beat Nikki in a race down the Giant slide.

My Butt is built for speed.

I was the oldest person I saw going up the hill, climb the steps, go down the slide. and one of the fastest.

Brought the Minolta Hi-Matic 7s-II, freshly CLA'd fro last weeks rainy weather.

Well, I eat as healthy as I can...most of the time.

But, dammit, I am positive that I wasn't born in the South to forego ALL southern cuisines and this is one of the best. I try to stop by the Dillard House once a year and their breakfast for two is enough for six!

I would imagine cheesecake must be pretty high on that list, and although I can't eat most cheesecakes (allergic to the base), I would still consider that a very, very sad day.
