The French view on "truth" in photography

The shock and awe generated by Photoshop must, in part, be based upon the public's misunderstood conception of photography as "The Truth". Photographers have always altered the so-called reality of pictures by omitting things through framing, dodging and burning prints, underexposing Kodachrome for high saturation — even choosing the ASA/ISO film speed has the potential to change the perception of a scene. I have never seen Half Dome in reality as Ansel Adams portrayed it.

20 or 30 rounds of retouching? Time to look for a new job Ken...

But yeah, what Dick said. There's also a time aspect to how photographs are not the truth. They (photographs) are just out of context quotes.
