Well,

I have been working for the past few days on making RFF a better place to hang out at. In doing so, I have implemented the RFF Member Gallery. This new feature will allow the members to post photos and share them with the rest of us. This will be great for our monthly projects!

I am on limited disk space now. So please be courteous and limit your posts to 3 or 4 pictures per day. I will acquire more disk space in the future. The Max file size one can upload is 1000 x 1000 pixels. Also, please report any bugs you find with the system.

All users who sign up on RFF will get their account information copied to the gallery within 4 hours.

Thanks for your patience and patronage. I really appreciate your support and visits.

Sincerely,

J. Torralba

I'd think there's no particular need for very large impage uploads, either... just sufficient for clear viewing at 100%... maybe 800x600 pixels? I'll probably stick to the same 511-pixels along the long side used for Photo.net posts.

I second that emotion. You're being too generous with 1000x1000. It's not like we're going to upload files suitable for printing. Save yourself some HD space and limit the size to 800x600 or smaller.

And THANKS!

Usually 500 or 600 on the long side, as it's the size I use to upload them to my web page also. I usually use that size, 96 DPI and a JPEG compression of around 60-70%.

Perfect size would be the one that fits completely in the screen area and doesn't need to scroll in order to see it completely... (I think)

Hi Jorge,

the interface to the Gallery has me somewhat puzzled. I suppose
that to upload a photo, one needs to login over there as well?
The username/password combination of RFF however doesn't
seem to work, which is peculiar, as an attempt at re-registering
is caught with a message I'm a known user.
I've also tried removing (part of) the cookies to no avail.

Any hints, or do I overlook something obvious?

I have the same problem. I can login to the RFF home; but not to the gallery. I get Invalid Username/Password.

Being the Computer Engineer type, I created a second account on the Gallery page using my Work EMail account.

That let me login to the Gallery, but not to the RFF Page. I suspect that the information is not getting copied over to the two databases.

Other interesting side-effects from using the two accounts on one session; suspect Cookie Crumble of one disabling the other.

I Hope this Helps narrow the problem. I will delete the second account; or which one works the least best. I want to see if the information gets copied from the gallery login to the main page.

I will look into this. However, all info is updated from the forum to the gallery every 4 hours. So if you registered at midnight and 1 minute, your account wont be updated until 4 am. And if you create an account on the gallery before then, it will not be updated. does this make sense?

Jorge,
I knew about the four hour update; but my username/password combination has been set for more than 48 hours now. The Gallery still views it as "Invalid Username/Password". I can post on the forum with it, and now know that logging out is important.

I chose to use the same user name and password for both... in case Jorge wants to unify them some day (kind of like ebay and half.com). And, I stay logged in (that is to say, I never log out). It's worked for me so far... <fingers crossed> ;)

Curiously my "problem" is not with the Gallery, that seems to have my current user/pass from the forum, but with the forum itself.

Many times, when logged in, after writing a somewhat long post or a reply to a PM, when clicking the "post message" button I receive an error saying I'm not a member. To sum up, after some minutes the forum is doing me an "auto-logoff".

Not much of a problem, as now I always select the whole text of my message and do a Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard before trying to send. A bit odd but still a lot better than loosing all you've write !

Is this happening to anybody else

I will look into this. The forum is the same software I use on my home theater site without any issues. It could be something with cookies expiring.

Brian,

I will reset your username and email you the passwd on the gallery. To keep things simple, you may want to change your passwd to match the forum passwd.

did you register seperately in the gallery?

you might need to clean out your cache and cookies on your home computer.

My thought too, Joe. Why, for his very first and only post, did Russ choose to quote Jorge's post not so very far above, and without comment?

Thanks, Jorge

How do I post a few of my photo's? I can't find any way to create my gallery. I apologise for being such a knucklehead in these matters. I'lllearn.

Thanks
Russ

russ,
if i remember correctly, you need to register seperately on the gallery site. i think most of us use the same name and password and just stay logged in,
