Do you ever think back on your life experiences and wonder what all the fuss was about? What was important and what was not?
I grew up in a blue collar "Leave it to Beaver" neighborhood in South Atlanta, attended the local Baptist church three times a week, and lived the "sheltered" life of a 50's kid. Great memories.
In spite of all the racial, religious and class fighting. (Come to think of it not much has changed since then.
)
But, the 50's gave way to the great awakening of the 60's and 70's. Not all was good or bad, just crazy. Not a lot of materialism worship back then, just hard working middle class folks getting on with their lives after World War II.
Trying to finish college in the days of the Vietnam war, getting married, starting a family...oh what a nightmare
Couldn't trust anyone and no one could help you understand what was going on. Lots of issues for a young person to try figure out.
But the Atlanta underground newspaper, The Great Speckled Bird, made things interesting. For those of you who never heard of it or would like to remember, this is an interesting article:
