The great Zeiss sell-off

What I find surprising is that, to the best of my knowledge, Zeiss has never acknowledged the wobble. It is worrying that, at least in Vietnam, photo equipment and watch repair men and women are all elderly.

I was able to DIY the wobble on my 35/2.8 but this thread is still making me want to sell it. Often prefer my Canon 35/2 and could trade the Zeiss for another focal length.

Hmmm, this started because 3 50's and 3 28's were for sale at the same time, more or less. And raised the question why is everyone - everyone! - getting rid of them. We end up pointing out faults but without saying how old the lenses were nor how much use they had. And the sample was tiny and so was the charge for repairs in some cases...

So I guess we've started an internet myth about these lenses.

Here's an old git's answer:-

1, Think long and hard about what would be a highly desirable camera or lens or both.

2, Now look on ebay and count the number for sale; make a special note of those for "parts only".

3, Now decide; is this purely coincidence that so many are being sold off or are the owners desperate to get rid of them because of their dreadful reputation?

It might help if the total production figures are available for the camera etc you decide to check.

Use both sides of the paper if necessary.

Just my 2d worth to the debate, and an awful warning.

Regards, David

Could people be selling them to buy the faster versions for sale?

There seems to be a Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Planar for Leica M now you can buy.

I think you’re probably right and it is randomness (and the $3 classifieds), but it’s just interesting to me in this particular case that three different sellers are all selling both the 50/2 Planar and 28/2.8 Biogon ZM lenses within the same week of each other. I used to own the Planar and Biogon at different times, and though I ultimately sold them it wasn’t because they had any kind of fault, they just weren’t for me. That may the case here too, but just curious if there might be some other pattern or trend at play. On a few other sites (Fred Miranda and some Facebook camera buy/sell groups) I’ve especially noticed a preponderance of 50/2 Planars for sale these days especially. Curious.
