So about 4K years total R&D time to produce the 50/1.5 Jupiter 3+ LTM
Thanks for the link.
Amazing to think of records being updated not for a matter of years or decades but centuries.

Hi,
Modern astronomers still use records taken thousands of years ago and are pleased to use them when checking or testing ideas.

One of our undergraduate Math students presented last semester a report on new findings in Math that came to light after scientists started to understand the writings of the Babylonians. For example, the well-known Pythagorean Theorem turns out is not really "Pythagorean". It was suspected to have earlier origins, but things were not proven until a few months ago.
It is in fact established by people from Babylon, which was many years earlier than thought. Wikipedia is behind. They need to use a reference from 2015.

Hi,
Interesting.
Apologies if I'm stating the obvious but I found Ifrah's "The Universal History of Numbers" fascinating but few seem to have heard of it, so I'll throw it into the mix.
Regards, David
PS I won't make the obvious joke about maths (Englash English) and math (American English)...

This area is where writing got its start so it makes sense that numbers algebra and all of that would have sprung from there as well. Technology.

Hmmm, judging by what I read (or try to read) on the www it's just math for some people and half-math for a few of them but it seems to be the way their head is hard wired in general terms.
Years ago, when I was a civil servant, I had a lot of trouble from maths' students looking at credit card numbers, seeing the obvious and then inventing fictional numbers and trying them out to see if they worked. 25 years after retiring I can still remember one famous university where they all seemed to be at it 24/7.
