The 'How many have you got' competition :-)

G.A.S? What G.A.S? I'm not suffering from G.A.S and I don't need to be cured! I still have two cameras and three lenses, just like when I joined this forum.

:D

Yeh Kris, but they're different and more expensive ones.

:D

My signature has my users (including one on the way) and those that (hopefully) will be users. There are many more shelf queens. The Olympus XA2 will go when my Rollei 35 is repaired and the Zorki 6 will probably end up going since the rewind button is in the same location as the shutter release on the FEDs and the Leica.

I know I am a Newbie and I am probably going to regret this but can someone please explain what GAS stands for? I hate TLAs

ummmm, no. i suppose i should get one. there's some pics of it waaaaaaay back in a FS. but none with coffee.

Here are a few of mine. This photo was done for Shutterbug's 25th Anniversary a few years back.
I should have used 25 cameras in the image :bang:

As Tim already said, it means Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

And if you truly have 21 Canonets then you've got it!!! :p

That's a relief! There I was thinking I had some disease unknown to mankind. At least I am not a total oddball contrary to what the wife, family and friends think :)

My name says it. I posted some picts of my rangefinders in the show your camera thread but I left out a leica m3 amd a few argus C3s and some I.ve probably forgotten that I have. There are few apple crates full of vintage plastic 1940-50's consumer type cameras out in my workshop but I can't get to them because my 50+ bicycles and a few antique vehicles are blocking my access :bang:

A quick look though the cabinet finds:

7 Argus C3s 1 Argus Markfinder 1 Baldessa 1b 2 Argoflex
1 Argus C 1 Argus AF 1 Graphic 35
4 Argus C4s 1 Argus C20 1 FED 2
3 Argus C44s 1 Kodak Pony IV 1 HiMatic F
2 Argus A4s 1 Signet 35 1 Ciroflex

29 Total

You people talking about the Agfa **35 series: you're right. The 1535 is the only rangefinder and rather sought after. I have a 335 and a 535, would like a 1535 someday. Nice cameras with good color rendering lenses, long shutter times (great night shooter on a tripod!) and good features such as a quick film loading system and a *very* soft shutter release.

There's also an Optima Flash, by the way: it's grotesque and hardly useful: http://35mm-compact.com/images/agfa-optima-flash.jpg

Like 2maneekameras, I have somewhere in the vicinity of 23 old bikes I'm fixing/stripping, an antique '66 Rambler Classic, and 811 cameras + 308 lenses. Not every one works 100% or sees a lot of usage, but I try to keep at least the 35mm goodies well exercised and functional. Now just need a couple more Exaktas, a few Retinas/Retinettes, an Agfa Karat and of course even half of the RF lenses that Bill has. Mine are all 50 mm or so.

Here's my tally:
23 kiev rangefinders (35mm)
1 kiev 2
1 kiev 2a
2 kiev 3 (bold letter)
3 kiev 3a
2 kiev 4a (61, 69)
1 kiev 4 (60)
3 kiev 4 (73, 74, 76)
3 kiev 4a (76, 76, 79)
5 kiev 4am (80-84)
2 kiev 4m (80-84)
1 kiev 5 (71)

Lens:
4 Jupiter 12
4 jupiter 9
2 jupiter 3
5 jupiter 8
6 Helios 103
1 Helios 94
10 Jupiter 8m
1 jupiter 11

2 universal turret rangefinders

1 iskra I
2 Moskva-5

I was at one of the local thriftstores looking for cameras the other day when i detoured to the used book section. I found a book by the Dalai Lama of Tibet, called "the Path to Tranquility, Daily Wisdom' In this book are inspiring thoughts for each day. I happened to turn to words for March 22. He gives us direct advice about the cure the cure for GAS!!

"If an individual has a sufficient spiritual base, he won't let himself be overwhelmed by the lure of technology and by the madness of possession. He or she will know how to find the right balance, without asking for too much, and know how to say: I have a camera, that's enough, I don't want another. The constant danger is to open the door to greed, one of our most relentless enemies. It is here that the real work of the mind is put into practice."

I made it it through that day without buying another camera, but I haven't gotten rid of any yet. I've only purchased one more lens since then.

I saw the post today and thought "Wow, Rich is back!" Damn.

Well, we'll keep hoping ~ ; - )
