My ideal rangefinder is a digital that has the following specifications:
1. Body and controls are ergonomically designed.
2. Has user interface similar to Nikon SP, Leica MP, or Leica M6 rather than relying only on menus, toggle switches, and fly-wheels
3. High quality, fast, interchangeable lenses
4. Ability to hide the image LCD screen so that is not visible.
5. LCD screen similar in design to the Canon G5
6. Choice of built-in matrix, center-weighted, and spot meter
7. Manual and auto focus control
8. Manual and auto exposure control
9. Offers shutter priority, aperture priority, manual, and program exposure modes but no scenic modes like portrait, landscape, etc.
10. Minimum of 5 megapixel resolution
11. Offers resolution equal to or greater than 35mm film
12. Creates RAW and standard jpeg image files
13. Image quality of the Fuji S2 or S3
14. Price less than $500
15. Uses CompactFlash memory cards
16. Uses standard-sized generic batteries rather than proprietary batteries
17. Uses rechargeable batteries that can be recharged outside of camera body
18. No built-in flash
19. About the size and style of a Leica MP or M6
20. Uses a digital sensor that allows the user to select a horizontal rectangular format, a vertical rectangular format, or a square format.
