Dave is more complex than that. My guess is that he anticipated this rally around the 28, and that he's got one for sale. 😉
 
I really think that it must be the shift from the M8 to the M9. When the M8 was all that Leica had for digital rangefinders, 28mm lenses were harder to come by. When the M9 was introduced, 35mm and 50mm were easy to come by, but the 35mm and 50mm lenses disappeared and their prices went through the roof when the M9 really hit the shelves. Now 28mm lenses seem to be more readily available and have had much more stable prices (over the last year and a half, I have watched 28mm lenses increase maybe 25% in price, while 50mm lenses (cron or lux) have increased 100-150%).
 
These days I prefer 24mm to 28mm (35mm being "normal" for me).
But there is one 28mm lens that I am happy to have, the one stuck to the Ricoh GR1s 🙂
 
That's the one I sold to FrankS Blake.. it went around the same time the IIIf went - I keep my lenses in tune with my bodies 🙂

Tough one for me. I used to love 28, but came to appreciate the more dramatic look of 24 and 35. I feel like 24 gives more of what I love about 28 (drama) and 35 has a similar feel without the fear of warping people's heads on the edges of the frame. It's usually safe to get really close.

Still, I keep wondering if I would use a lens with a 28 fov more than I do my lens that has a 35 fov...
 
Maybe 28 lenses are for sale more (if indeed that is the case) because they are so many of them out there being traded back and forth 😉
 
My normal lens on the M8 is a 28mm. I don't use this lens with my Zeiss and I don't think I would use it often on an M9 (if I had one). So it could be that there are some 28mm lenses for sale from former M8 owners.

Buying the 28mm was a decision pro M8 for me.
 
I just came back using 28mm again after first buying a AVENON 28/3.5 last year and the ZM 28 Biogon recently. The key for me was using an external VF especially for that FL, works perfect for me.

Three years ago, 28mm lenses in M-mount were hardly available (when the M8 got popular) and recently, the 35mm and 50mm are hardly in stock anywhere, must be the effect of the M9 ...
 
I LOVE 28mm. It's easily my most used lens (CV 28/2), and when I had a Nikon FM2 system, the 28/2 AI was my most used lens.

I don't really get why it's not more popular, but maybe I'm just weird. I find it useful for basically everything, especially an all-around travel lens.
 
The bets thread for outstanding pictures is the GRD thread. Why? cause those guys can shoot with a 28mm!

I'm now making an effort to make my 28mm my main lens over the 35mm.

As said by tj01 it is a dream lens if you have access and can get close enough.I use a 28 Elmarit on an M7 with 0.58 viewfinder for almost all of my work.In fact I shall probably sell all of my other Leica lenses and upgrade to a 28mm 1.4 when Leica decide to produce one!

I normally carry only a 28 and a 50 with me and make them work. The 28 is about as wide as you can get and not get noticeable distortion as far as I am concerned. The FOV is ideal for me when I am trying to record landscapes or scenes when traveling.

(I have a VC 35/2.5 pancake I on the shelf for certain occasions.)
