So the ONLY reason Dave ended up w/ the 25mm from me is that I picked up a 21SA. No question for me, 25 over 28. (but I went for WIDE, so 21 works). That ZM 25 is a pretty amazingly good lens, lives up to the hype.
(oddly enough though, I DO like 28 on SLR's. Just not on RF's )

Interesting. I don't have a 28mm in 35mm RF. I wish I did! But in Contax mounts they are scarce and expensive. I have never liked 35mm. I have two in 35mm SLR mounts and just don't use them. If going wide, I prefer 28mm, or wider. The only reason I have one for my Kiev is that I can't afford a 28mm, or wider. sigh

Not likely to see my 28 on the market any time soon. Works for me.
Interesting Dave. Wouldn't mind seeing a thread and other input on this subject. Just a thought."I keep my lenses in tune with my bodies"

I'd like to try 28 (or 24.) I use a 15mm on the M8 and don't have a problem getting close but the wide effective 21 FOV can be hard to reign in. I get a lot more sky than I want, and sometimes having to step right into the middle of a situation changes it a bit more than I'd like. The parallax on "closeups" if you can call them that, is extreme.
Seems like 28 is definitively wide but still easier to control.

There is a very big difference between 28mm and 24mm, more so in terms of perspective and distortion towards the edges with up close subjects. Anything wide than 28mm is much more unforgiving to people at close distances.

The GRD III (fixed 28) is my daily/pocket shooter--though when I add the 21mm goggle, it's no longer pocketable. When packing multiple cameras I have shooting it alongside a Zuiko 28/3.5 (OM2s) a 28 Biogon (Contax G), and a Panny 14 (m43). Goes along with my recent determination to get in closer to subjects (animate, in-) while leaving room for context and disappearing points.

These days I prefer 24mm to 28mm (35mm being "normal" for me).
But there is one 28mm lens that I am happy to have, the one stuck to the Ricoh GR1s![]()

For me personally I have never been able to work with the 28mm. I like a 21mm and then the 35mm.
I've never had an RF 28 but I never worked well with the 28 on my Nikon SLRs. That is a pity — the Nikon 28s blow both the Nikon 35s and the Nikon 24s (at least, the older, reasonably-sized ones) into the weeds. I just don't do well with the 28 FL. But there are master photographers who do their best work with the 28, in both SLR and RF...

Noted! My thoughts were just based on looking through the 21/25 viewfinder during a day of shooting and feeling like 25 might be more appropriate. I forgot about distortion from tilting etc.

I've never liked 28 as a focal length and I don't really know why. Maybe it is just a bit too much of one thing and not quite enough of the other. At the moment I have 19 and 35 (both ZM) and I think that one day the ZM 25 would fill the gap perfectly. I have a 28 for my G2 and must have taken about three shots with it in seven years.

Funny, didn't know Zeiss made a 19mm. I have the 18 ZM. Love the 28mm P.O.V.. It's my "normal".

Keith,
I can see that you really know how to get close with a 28. A 28 perhaps is not for someone that's timid, and it helps that we are in New York where crowding happens every day.

Well spotted. I meant 18. I sometimes get it mixed up with the Leica R 19 mm I used to own.

Living in NYC does help Cal! Sometimes when you're in the crowd, the 28 is great. Up close and personal. Andy, I would love to own that Leitz 19 as well!
