So I pulled the trigger on this backpack...My first choice was an ONA Camps Bay, but those didn't come in black canvas. $450 was also just a little too much for a photo backpack.

For a quick review, it's a big, heavy but extremely well-protected bag. Thick inserts and flap and zipper combos for all openings. The trade-off is that none of the pockets are very accessible, unless you leave the zipper open.

Fully loaded it holds a large-ish laptop, charger, 2 mirrorless bodies, 4-5 M lenses and some extras. I can see it as a really nice 1-2 day trip backpack. It's comfortable even when fully loaded with a tripod strapped to the bottom.

Another issue is that with the laptop inside the bag it can be difficult to get gear out from the bottom compartment. My solution is to reverse the compartments, put the cameras on the top part and everything else in the bottom. But I don't know many people who religiously carry their laptops around like I do...so maybe this is just an issue for me.

Despite these issues, I'm really liking this backpack😀 And you just can't argue with the looks.

Well, if we're talking about days in the wilderness...no. But I know enough that something of this weight/size probably isn't for (serious) hiking.

It's more of an "urban" bag that lets you navigate airports on short trips without the hassle of a suitcase, and actually makes you look good while doing so.

so, after looking good at the airport...upon arrival at your destination, do you transfer some of your gear into a smaller bag...like a messenger bag?

Well, YYV, I really like the looks of this bag. Of course, once filled I could probably not get it off the ground, and if it had to go along with me it would need wheels. But it is beautiful, like a piece of soft sculpture!

Good question...actually haven't thought of that. I do have an ONA bowery that's just the right size to use as an insert for this backpack, though.

Although as mirrorless gear goes, even fully loaded this isn't too bad to carry around. A professional DSLR and two zooms is easily as heavy as my entire kit.
