The latest Eye-Fi SD cards.....

... Could anyone comment please on the use of the Eye Fi cards?

I'm looking specifically at the newer Pro-X2 cards in conjunction with Fuji Xpro-1 and Ricoh GR. and iOs 8 (iPhone) although, experience with older versions and other devices would also be appreciated.

I have them in an M8, and did use to them in my X-pro. The only way to go. If you have an iPhone, they load direct to your photo stream. If you want to up load your Raw files also it will do it wi-fi. I just upload jpegs, then keep the raw on chip until I plug into computer. Big time saver, and instant results.

Oh cool. So if I understand correctly, one can save RAW and Jpeg and only have the jpegs sync to the iPhone/iPad ?

That's what I do. I bought the Pro-x 2 cards. They are the only ones that allow raw uploads. Even the 8mb cards are fine because they will upload automaticly when you are on your wi-fi network. You can also set to delete when 3/4 full etc.

Saves taking the case off the cameras. I have a Fuji XT1 now, and hate the wifi on that camera. Will not wirelessly upload Raw, or full size JPEGS. The eye-fi cards are worth it to me.
I hate sitting in front of the computer doing uploads, a must if you travel as your photos are all backed up in the eyefi cloud also.

Up to now I take the SD card out and transfer to my PC for storage, PP and ultimately selectively printing and/or post on my Flickr site. Help an old man out.

I understand there are a couple of Ipad apps that can develop RAWs.
For me I want the Jpegs to my Camera so I can get them quickly to the end user as previews.
The RAWs I will transfer later to my computer for tuning. Being able to have them stored directly to the cloud is also a potential option.
Not sure how or if that works. Primarily I want the jpegs on the phone.

Yes, you could also use the phone as a Back up device. With Cloud options now available you could also send items from the phone to the cloud for storage or to access from your computer later.

One thing to keep in mind with the GR: RAW+JPEG doesn't give you any options as to JPEG size... so if you have the Eye-fi transfer ALL jpegs it could bog down if you're shooting fast.

I just select specific JPEGs to transfer via the menu or the effect button in playback mode.

Overall the card works very well in the GR and the X100s.

Edit: Do some testing before putting the Eye-Fi in any card reader other than the one it comes with. The Eye-Fi card will become corrupted in many USB 3 card readers. It sucks to have to carry around the seperate reader and have to deal with the slower transfer speeds, but it's better than losing your images.

Really? I remember past pro cards permitting raw downloads (for a subset of raw formats known to the card), but no automatic uploading.

Great tip on the card reader.
I've actually stopped using them myself. i find connecting a usb to my camera is easier and lessens the chance of damaging the card.
The only time I use a card reader now is if I have filled a few cards while traveling.
Otherwise a 32g card holds enough for an event or show and more than enough for portrait sessions.
My new phone has a lot of capacity and syncs to cloud ... carrying multiple cards may become a very infrequent occurrence.

You have to load the chip in its own reader. Also in the setup of the cards you can set it to upload raw, JPEG, & video. To upload raw wi-fi takes a lot of time & it's not for quick viewing. Load the raw to your computer if you like the Jpegs.

You want a Mobi 32. The product lit suggests it only does JPG, but it does JPG wirelessly and RAW when you plug the card into a standard reader. I would recommend a Lexar Workflow.

With the new iPhone software, the X2 series is as easy to set up.

Tip: keep your wireless codes in Notes so that if you have to forget and reconnect, you don't need to to have the card case with you.

I have a Fuji XT1 now, and hate the wifi on that camera. Will not wirelessly upload Raw, or full size JPEGS.


There's a setting In the Fuji WiFi menu to allow full scale picture uploads!

happy Eye-Fi user here. with older non-wifi camera its life saver if having social media fanatic in family who wants those pics immediately on smartphone and then Facebook etc.

I shoot raw+jpeg. delete all jpegs once transmitted to my gf, and fiddle with raw files leisurely with my own pace 🙄

The card arrived today. This is a game changer for me. The best $70 I've spent in a long time!..Why did I wait so long 😱

With the iPhone 6+ and flickrs new app auto syncing to my flickr account, I have images online in under a minute (private).
Add a couple more seconds to change images i want to share from private to public.... it's as speedy a delivery as anything anyone could ever hope for.
