The Latest M special ... The Kravitz 'Drifter'.

I`m not so sure .
Perception is everything and in this day and age it is all too easy to let your reputation slip .
Maybe though its been a corporate decision to be more of a fashion brand in which case ,good luck.
I just think its a shame but what do I know.

Leica has been doing these special editions for ever.
I know of 27 special edition M6 models.

So in reality ... the ultimate collection would have to be a complete collection of all the special editions. The mind boggles!:p

Guess who is buying all these special editions? Including this latest Leica Grifter model.

Indeed........there is nothing new about Leica "bling"

It's rather like having an ice cream cone with three flavours, sprinkles AND a cherry on top (If such a thing is possible in the real world).

There's nothing wrong with Leica making special editions IMHO - but this set is just sinfully ugly.

Maybe what Leica needs is a committee that is charged with vetting special editions with an eye toward derailing visual abominations such as this before they are allowed to proceed to market.

Speak for yourself, I find the Drifter fantastic -- a proper Leica for a real rock star!

Keep in mind that most special editions sell out before they even hit the streets and they substantially subsidize the Leicas that we mortals can almost afford.

If it didn't have Kravitz's name attached to it and wasn't limited to 125 sets who would buy it ... seriously?

I sometimes get the impression that if Leica put a series of cameras through a system that made them look like they've been through twenty five years of use in the desert and dropped down a flight of stairs occasionally people will line up to buy them provided they have a trendy name and limited production. I realise this is the way of the world and they aren't the only guilty party but personally I have no time for it!

It detracts from the reputation/image of a company that makes and always has made seriously good cameras and optics, albeit at a premium.

Agreed.
I know the argument runs that its good for the bottom line but do they really need to do this.
I mean really …. it does make them look like a bit of a joke.

Leica already did that. And it was the Lenny Kravitz edition before this one!
