The Leica Lens Coffee Mug

They are porcelain and beautifully made and decorated - the picture does not do them justice. On a group visit to Leica Mayfair we were all given one as part of a "goody bag", which I guess is what they are really for.

Not quite as cool as the canon and Nikon varieties...

Looks like processing tank to me and actually could be cool - something different than canon / nikon and it would explain that ugly look too

Trouble is, it's useless as a coffee mug. It may be made of fine German porcelain, but with hot coffee in it, you can't pick it up, the heat transfers so readily. I tried one of those cardboard sleeves you get at coffee houses, but they cover up all the lens markings and the point is lost. Maybe I'll use it for beer...

Finally one of those gimmicky lens mugs that is not made out of plastic! With a silicone band/ sleeve to hold it without burning yourself, I am sure this would be the only functional lens mug you could (or would) actually drink from. Not sure what people are complaining pricewise either, as this style of mug generally goes for about €12- €15 without any trendy branding..

My longtime Leica dealer sent me the Noctilux 0.95 mug as a gift, and it's actually okay. Inside the mug there's a line that tells you not to fill it beyond that point. Then if you grab the mug above that line on the outside, you're fine.

What would have been an idea was if they put a ribbed rubber 'sleeve' on the outside of the mug where the focus ring is pictured -- then you'd have a better space to grab the mug and wouldn't burn your fingers, and it would be a neat mock-up of the focusing ring.

And hey, maybe if you guys bought more Leica stuff, maybe your dealer would send you one for free too!
