The MP comes in black. The M2 comes only in chrome. (Well, I know it came in black paint too but their not readily available or as affordable as their chrome cousins). Still, my vote is for the M2 if you take the meter out of the MP.

To me, it's the MP. Followed by M3....

I do feel that you cannot disregard the light meter. It's the biggest reason that I sold the M3 in favor of the MP....

I've had both along with M4's 6's and 6ttl. Sold all and kept an M2 that is definately the smoothest camera i've ever had. The only reason I haven't sold it though is out of sentiment as I bought it from the grandaughter of the original owner with a boxed mint 50mm Elmar and a 3 element 90mm Elmar(the rare one). It came with the original 1962 purchase receipt and I didn't want to let this great kit get broken up.
I've just bought an M6 for daily use though as I did miss the meter. IMHO the best value M made. MP is nice and sometimes I regret selling mine but it just isn't worth the money. I seem to have a £600 mental block for an M film body!

Your poll is missing the hands-down winner all-time best Leica M- the M3. M2 is runner up, with the MP in third place. All the others fall into also-ran category. Just MHO.

Au contraire. The M3 comes a very poor second to the M2. The M3's gothic looks just don't work with those raised window surrounds, but much more significantly, it totally fails where an M camera should excell- when using a wide angle lens.

film loading, meter (I know what you said but it's still there), newer so more shooting less fixing, black models are attainable without selling a kidney, The MP... it's all I need.
