The M10 has arrived! Which half-case to get?

I may go with a Luigi half case and strap one day soon. A full case is about double the cost for a Luigi one.

We're entering Louis Vuitton territory
Yes..but you can casually stroll down the blvd..leica hanging off well toned shoulder on a Sunday aft...1/2 case cradling your precious..
Pointing at all the windows on 5th ave..wondering..what am I going to buy next...and then...snapping a few clicky pics of homeless curs along the way for fun and giggles...

There are disparities in income and lifestyles. Yes, we see such differences around us.

Still, I don't feel guilty for owning Leica cameras. Should we all feel guilty?

$560 plus shipping. It is very high for a camera half case, but people here say that it is "the best out there".

.....more expensive than a 8 element Summicron replica 😉

I've tried several different half cases over the years and on different M models. The Arte Di Mano cases are superb, and my favorite of the aftermarket ones, but honestly the Leica Protector half cases are also superb and are usually amongst the best fit. I did get an Artisan & Artist half case for my M9 which was very very nice too, and have their half case on my M4-2 as well.

This is good to know, Godfrey. The Leica Protectors don't cost more than getting a Luigi half case. We have several good options.

I am now focusing on a Luigi half case with strap for $190 shipped.
It may not be his best leather. I figure, it still is a Luigi case. Can't be too bad.

That's the exact case I have! The green matches my body perfectly!

The ebay posted "green" looks beige to me, while your "green" is green!:bang:

They might be different colors; I'm not sure. All I know is mine is definitely green - and it matches up against my camera perfectly! In your case it shouldn't really matter, right?

You are correct; with a chrome M10, being black and chrome will fit well with the Loden Green half case.

It seems that using a half case with access opening to battery and memory card could expose the camera to water damage during rain, say.

Raid, I think that's extremely unlikely, since it's on the bottom.....unless you put your camera in a puddle. If it's raining that hard, any camera of mine would be safely in a bag.

I keep my Leica camera in a bag during strong rain, but when the times is right for taking a photo, I need the camera out of the bag.

Raid, I'll add to some of my original (and other's comments). The reason the Arte di Mano cases are so highly rated by some (including myself), is not so much in the quality of the leather (although it's exceptional), but in it's fit, which is like a glove and form fitting over every inch of the camera body it covers. It never over time really looses this fit and it's the closet thing to not having a 1/2 case at all around the body. Where the Arte di mano case really made a difference was with the M9 body since that 1/2 case goes around the body and it's controls more so than 1/2 cases for the M240 & M10.

I have high regards for Luigi cases and Leica's ones, but it's not quite the same, especially over time. Again how much wants to invest in a half case is very subjective...and I am very cost conscious.

Secondly, the concern for a 1/2 case with a bottom door for the battery/memory card being exposed to the elements I suppose could be warranted but keep in mind, the entire top plate and controls are completely exposed to the elements such as rain when in a 1/2 case. Personally I haven't heard of anyone having any issues with this aspect.

Some may not be familiar with how Arte di Mano 1/2 cases work when they are equipment with a bottom access door (although they make the same cases in a style without access door). The original bottom plate of the M10 is first removed before slipping it into their 1/2 case with access door. This is not done with their cases without access door, so there's always that option.

There are also lesser known manufacturers that make 1/2 cases for the M10 that have access doors on the bottom, that cost a fraction of the Arte di Mano case. I purchased one for a M240 and fit was good, leather also appeared to be good and access door worked as intended although not as elegant as a Arte di Mano. I think the cost was approx. $150. So many choices and various price ranges and no doubt you'll end up with the one you feel appropriate.

Thank you for your feedback, Dave. I can tell from many posts on using Arte di Mano half cases that users are praising such cases. The M10 is "weather resistant" but not water proof, of course. I may not get a half case with access to the battery and memory card, to be on the safe side. I have seen "that less costly half case" for around $150. Thanks for your view on it.

While it sounds convenient, being able to access the battery and card without removing the case doesn't impress me. In fact, there's something that doesn't feel right about it.

It seems to me Raid is feeling the same thing about it.
