The M4-P goes to a balloon festival

Ted: I like the Elmar-M very much. Sharp and good DOF rendering, add to that the collapsible factor. The M4-P is practically flat when it's not in use.

JNewell: Yes, it's the new one. I think it's this one in black.

Thanks. You linked me to the Leica web site, but it doesn't respond.

Ya Did Good!

Ya Did Good!

Shadowfox, you did good!

Myself, living in Abq, I've shot more balloon pictures in color that I know what to do with. So this year I found myself without a film camera at all, but went ahead with the digi-snap and did people photography instead, and converted them to B/W in post. I especially enjoyed following the "Zebras" - the black and white stripped launch directors - some great gestures.

Next year I'm bringing a rangefinder and some B/W film, for sure.

BTW, how do you like the chromgenic B/W film over silver gelatin film? I can't argue with your results, great job.

Is this the balloon thread? We're lucky here - when the local balloon fesival runs (for a week) we can walk amongst the crews as they are launching, right up close and personal.

Ted: Strange, the link worked for me, I just tried it. Maybe your router is blocking Leica sites 😀

Joe: My goodness, I wouldn't dream to compare this balloon festival with the one you have over there 😱. As for C-41 black&white films, I am a big fan of both the Kodak and Ilford. They have awesome tonal range and when stretched to the limit, they introduce lovely grains.

The only "true" bw that I've tried that I like more is the Fortepan 100 ASA. If tried T-Max 400, it's rather "blah", but it's lab developed (expensive to boot). Of course, it'll be different when I finally can develop myself so I can play with different variety. But until then, I'll be shooting C-41 mostly.

Nick: "balloon thread"? Sure, why not 🙂
