Feels fine: I don't have any problem with the size. The cross-the-needles VF display for the meter is great; rather more intuitive for me than the LED system of the M6 and later. It's also black, which we all know is cooler than chrome.

The arrival of the M5 heralds the departure of my nicely-worn and 100% functional M2. An RFF user mentioned in a previous thread that he wanted first crack at it, but if it doesn't go to him I'll have it posted in the classified forum here in short order.

selling the m2? what's your back up for the 5?

Glad it landed in one piece and it's of your liking, please don't forget to update us on your experiences with it. The M5 is indeed one rare specimen, but even though it's sometimes the 'ugly' Leica, its price doesn't seem to reflect that !
 
Thanks, Joe and Taffer. The M3 is my number-one M; the M5 is really a backup (and metered alternative) to it.

I've just realised I need a 50mm screw-bayonet adapter. With the M3, the 50mm frame is always available, and with the M2 is just used the 35mm lens, so I only have 28-90 and 35-135 adapters.

Samples as soon as I can manage.

Is there a light to illuminate the meter needles in very low light? I recall that was a feature Leica put into the SL2 because people complained the SL was hard or impossible to see in very low light.
 
Nope: in really low light, they're gone; but my tests indicate that the light was so low as to be below the sensitivity of the meter. When it's likely to get really low, I'd have the M3 and Sekonic, I think.

Muh? Metered? An M2? Weren't those made in the coal age, before selenium was isolated as an element? Has your world gone all allegorical? Or, are you referring to one of those little sit-on-top hotshoe meters?

In any event, sir, best of luck with the M5. You could probably make good pictures with a rolled-up piece of birchbark stuck in an empty Kleenex carton, so it should serve you well. Please do show us some photos when circumstances permit.
 
It's too bad Leica did not include a built-in Selenium meter for the M2 and M3.

Than they would be as cheap as the Canon 7.

I'm glad you are happy with the M5. The BIG version of the CL.

Just don't attach it to the Phaser Banks and let it run the house...
 
Re-reading the post I quoted, I'm almost certain our protagonist meant to say that his new M*5* is intended to be a metered alternative to...
 
I'm sure of it, Biggles... but then, think about this: if you had just received an M5, wouldn't you be writing typos too? ;)
