The M8.2 and Hoodman RAW SD Card

I just got back from Hawaii today. Anxious to load up my pictures, I took my M8.2 and turned it on. Then it gives me a beep saying "SD-Card Full". I said no big deal, turn it off and use my trusty card reader to import the pictures into L3 per my usual routine. Well, it wouldn't read it! My Mac wont mount it. I tried a PC to read it, it mounts the card as a drive but it has no folders or image.

I called Hoodman support and they want me to send the card in. I am about done reading possible recovery solution out there as my jetlag is kicking in.

It is time to sleep and dream that I am still in Hawaii. 500+ pictures in Maui and Oahu possibly gone? Sigh! Double Sigh! Lesson learn!

Hmm could have picked up a virus on the card from somewhere maybe? Some friends got viruses on their cards from using unprotected computers in internet cafe's when I was in India. MediaRECOVER ( that's how it looks on the software) worked well at extracting all the "lost" files. Give it a try!

when I took my card previously used in Canon p&s, and put it into M8, had this same message. I believe M8 wants to have a partition originally formated by it, with label "NO NAME", and wont (always) automatically start using other partition, even if correct filesystem and plenty of space 😕

if you know this partitioning stuff and how it works, consider see how the map looks like, by using Disk Utility (in Application -> Utilities) ? be careful since the tool can be used to erase the card too.

If the camera can still see them, I wouldn't consider them lost just yet.

I doubt it is a virus. I've only used it on my Mac. The M8.2 was able to shot and display the image 2 days ago. I've downloaded the software but it will not display the partition or sd card to perform a recovery.

If I can detect the card, it would be better. I even tried plugging the USB cable directly on the m8.2 and nothing.

I've got a couple of Sandisk SD cards that were originally used in a Canon G9 that I use in my M8 with no problems. The camera created a 100LEICA folder under the top level DCIM folder that was already there with no issues at all. Good luck with retrieving your images. I've shot a lot in Hawaii and I don't even want to think what it would have been like to lose them. Once you retrieve them though, toss that card in the trash and buy Sandisk.

I am pleased to announced that my DNG files were recovered. The card was obviously destroyed to unsolder the chip to plug into their customized controller. 🙂

As suspected after numerous recovery software did not amount into fruition, the controller must have went bad.

I used the company called Recoverfab in DEUTSCHLAND.

^ Wow, now that's an extreme case of failure. If I could ask, how much do they charge to recover a card?

Glad you got your photos back!

They charged me 233 euros. It took 5 days to get to Germany from NYC using first class mail. They recovered about 633 photos.
