Hi there. this is a new forum for me but maybe some ex-LUG guys lurk here too. I'm looking forward to the M8 and belive the details will be released on the 15th on their website.
I did actually see one of the 'beta' cameras being used over in Cambridge some weekends back, though not close enough to be hands on, sadly.
From what my hazy memory recalls, there was the LEICA logo on the front left of the camera then followed by the (missing) M8 badge.
I also seem to recollect more controls on the back RHS of the camera body than the picture shows.
In other words, I'd be less certain that this is a genuine photo of the camera, but whatever, its going to be close enough until all is revealed.

From the looks of this photo it seems the 1.25 eyepiece won't fit. That would tie in with the dropping of the 135 mm focal length. 🙁 🙁

Some third party vendor will come up with a 1.25X eyepiece, if Leica doesn't. That will solve Leica's "dropping" of the 135mm focal length. Actually, Leica didn't drop it as much as not recommend it. They don't want a lot of customers complaining about rangefinder misalignment when its really a case of a lot of old guys with old eyes. I know that I often exceed the F# and baseline requirements with long lens and get away with it . However your margin of error is razor thin and your rangefinder must be in good alignment, for this to work. Leica just doesnt want to open a can of worms by recommending a long telephoto like the 135mm
But, frankly, I'll try everything. Especially with a 1.25X eyepiece.

I am the only one who thinks that the ergonomics look exactly like a D2a. I would say a step backwards from the RD-1. And also from the DMR with its two screen interface. And I'm just talking of the interface between photographer and camera.
Am I missing something -- I have one on order and and the RF/L glass/DMR image quality far outweigh ergnomic fine points -- but I would have hoped for a bit more than an interface built off a D2.
And the case looks like they stole Luigi's design of the front padding bump.
I hope this is a sign they spent all their quality time getting the quality of the image on target. And not the reverse. That would be disapointing.

The bump on this Leica everready case is nowhere near what Luigi's grip looks like. I know.

More to the point do you know your D2s and do the ergonomics remind you of your M6 or a D2. That is if you can find a moment to take a break from your hearty loughter.

I have been meaning to e-mail my dealer to check the diopter size out when they are at Photokina, because one would be part of my order. Please put that on your lists of questions, if you would.Mark Norton said:
The 135mm might have another problem. When you do offset microlenses on a sensor, it is probably for the wide angle end. Tele lenses could get an inverse affect, since their angles don't fit, being too perpendicular. I have a 135mm f/4, so we'll find out eventually. When I backed into the rangefinder formula, I got f/5.5 as the min f/stop for the 135mm, which implies it might be useable, but for the fall off thing.

There are no fall off issues on the R-D1 with 135mm lenses so i don't expect any problem on the M8 either.

Was in an Osaka photo shop today and they had a post card that seems to be going around as I saw it again at another shop.
Photo is said to be of the 'bare' metal diecast body of the M8, and all the switches and bottons match the M8 photo here. Funny they hadn't seen the photos here and the die-cast is as close as they here to the 'real thing'
But again - it all matches up
