The Mexican Suitcase, an exhibit now at ICP in NYC. Revelatory overview of Capa's role in the photographic reporting of the Spanish Civil War to the world at large, in the context of the rediscovery of the lost Capa-Taro-Chim negatives after 70 years. Fascinating, but requires time and good eyes because the contact sheets are not sufficiently enlarged (IMO) and need very close viewing. Worth the effort. Adds to our knowledge of Chim, one of Capa's partners in the founding of Magnum, and of Gerda Taro as well, Capa's brave and beautiful lover who was killed on assignment photographing a critical battle at the front. The exhibit includes a lost film on the Abraham Lincoln brigade that was shot and directed by HCB, who was Capa's long time friend and another partner in the founding of Magnum.
