The Mighty XPan

To re-acquaint myself with the XPan view, I went to the Dumbarton bridge area and shot some frames today. Process Tri-X, made contact print scan and remember why the XPan may as well be my most favorite camera. You can also see my 15mm doing the yeoman's work with the 30mm lens!

Exactly. I have the 30mm VF too, but it's a bit bulky. I use the Zeiss 15mm finder because they are so clear (easily twice as clear as the XPan builtin and external finder).

thats real brilliant way ! save up alot on weight from original big bulky finder 😀

"Mister F": yes, the XPand and TX lens are the same. Just different names. All are made by Fuji.

I looked across your sites, to many of them in fact trying to find these shots. I don't see them. I only found a few images of Nikko and not much else shot with the Xpan. What am I doing wrong?

The blog is relatively new. The major period when I last used the XPan continuously was late 2007.

If you go to this link http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/745963, it has my book that is done mostly with XPan.

I plan to re-start using the XPan a lot in the future.

ALL 🙂 I now have a L-plate and tripod and still generally shoot handheld.

Cool, I regret not grabbing the TX-2 last week, but I will probably find an XPan in the next few weeks to buy. I was wondering how effective it would be to shoot hand held as I rarely bring my tripod with me.

Richard - a slightly OT question if you will permit it- are you happy with the print version of the book with the xpan images across the page - do they line up properly? The preview seems to show ovrelapping images on some of the pages, or vertical misalignments.

It's done on purpose - the book requires overlap because of the gutter. In fact, I added more overlap toward the center, like a bell curve.

The quality is quite high, the biggest problem with Blurb books is simply that it's too expensive for a large volume. That book was done as a "class project," and we all know that chances for any "real" sales are slim. :-(

Thanks Richard-that makes sense - must have been hard to judge the amount of overlap to use and I'm glad it worked in print. I think your book is is easily worthy of real sales - good luck with it!
