As from January 1st this year I have spent over 3800€ on photographic equipement, which when my right brain half thinks about it, is absolutely ridiculous, but then again my left brain half is having a ball ....

Do I need it ?

Does it feed me ?

I think we now the answer to that .....

Does my 15 year old Volvo need servicing and new tyres .... ?

Do I need new garden furniture ?

Do we need other basically important things ?

I now the answer to that to ...

But upon the point of starvation I can always lick and/or suck my newly acquired

My Hasselblad 503cx
My 2 M5's
My 25mm summilux (chrome)
My sekonic 558
My leicomat IIc
My If (which tastes particularly good)

And if push comes to shove I have 1 fat cat, and one less fat cat ....

Problem is, I have a wife which is also very much into photography and never whinges or moans upon new arrivals, but pulls up a chairs and Oooohs and Aaaahs out of shere excessive left brain half useage ...

the bottom line being, all you guys out with "difficult" partners/wives (concerning photographic purschaes) consider yourselves lucky ..... Hubgry now, just off to suck on my Hassi ....

... one last note ......

.. And has my photographic quality got better, do I make better pics ? ... hehehehehe I konw the answer to that too ... hmmmmmm

....

Tires and some servicing? I'm wondering if the body shell on my 36 year old VW Bus will hold up another year. It's fading fast and I need to find a mid-70's replacement.

TWO M5's ! Now that's a bit extreme.

TWO M5's ! Now that's a bit extreme..... yes...

I put out an WTB add on the internet and actually got quite some offers, these two however (black and chrome) I couldn't resist, I bought the one, and HAD to get the other ... after all a good deal is a good deal (I keep on telling myself) ... like I said Do I need .. ?

It all started when I went out to look for a Mamiya 7II .... found a couple, probably makes great pictures, so sold my Contax G2 set.... and started buying all these Leica's.... automatism, no brain-hand-voice coordination, must be the drugs I took back in 70-ies

And really, I want for nothing, not clothes, not cars, no other goodies (appart from my Triumph Bonneville) don't really need anything, I am very content with my life, my family, my job , my house .... but when it comes to cameras .... I simply love the "old" mechanical stuff, the way it clicks the shutter, the prescision, the feel of the cold metal, the weight to size comparison .... My wife likes that too but she needs to lug around these kilo's of plastic-electronic get together that people refer to as Digitals .... I can pick up her IId and this does nothing to me, doesn't react, like fondling a bad book .... yikes .....
I just guess I like stuff I can understand ....

I think that I take less pictures when Im getting new stuff, and when I get it I rush though a roll of film just to see how it works. I promised my self that once I get my MIR I will stop and get to know the camera and just but lenses if I have to, we shall see how that works out. Lenses, there will always be lenses and viewfinders, heh. My spending is at a much lower level then yours, Im just starting out in this camera stuff.

This current spending spree of mine is by no means common practice ... I use to only buy the occasional packs of film and development needs (paper and chemicals) and don't I know the "once I get, I will ..."

:)

I told my wife that I was going to sell about $1,200 of gear to cover my last buys. My $1,250 from the beginning of the year bought a Nikon M unsync w MIOJ case and F2 Sonnar, a 25cm F4 with N-F tube, Canon Vt w F1.2, Canon Pellix w F1.4, Pre-production F2 Photomic, and a Rollieflex SL35. You can always get your money back out of fine equipment.

Two M5's are not extreme. Two pre-production F2's out of a collection of 11 F2's is probably getting there.
