Yesterday I recieved a couple of IXMOOs with some corossion on the bottom. Like Tom says, probably caused by moisture in the spongy stuff that was originally in the canister.I´m not Tom, but have you tried using the stuff you can buy for jewelry? A solution you can put metal items into, to remove surface corrosion. My girlfriend has some. If you want the name, I can look for it.
I have tried my own suggestion above, just now, and it works. I used stuff called "Jewel Clean" from the manufacturer Hagerty. This was something that my girlfriend had in her closet. There is a web site here:

Chris posted excellent pictures here, clearly showing the difference between IXMOO and FILCA viewed from the side. It seems to me there is also a consistent difference when viewed from the bottom:
The cassette in the middle is a FILCA. The other two are IXMOO. Yes, there is something fishy with the spools, but it is the design of the outer brass cassette part I´m thinking of.
