Take a look at the bidding history (Historique) - the member in question has the ID gwel979... He bid 999 EUR. Then after him came challesphoto.
I don't know what you can do, except relist the item and report both those users to eBay...

On the other hand, looking at the feedback of user gwel979, I see both your name and challesphoto in his feedbacks... That's interesting - let us know what happens.
Probably a case of stolen ID, or....?

Ahem, I just thought it made you laugh but guys you are too much serious to my taste... Nanana ... First bidder bought a J-12, wanted the J-8 but bid 999€ ! and the next bidder entered, as he said, a point instead of a coma...
 
I recently won an enlarger lens from England on eBay then I was horrified to see the shipping was £690.00! :eek:

So I figured it was an incorrect decimal place and paid £6.90 along with the bid value on PayPal and then heard nothing from the seller. About three weeks later the lens turned up in the post... Phew! ;)

I am new to the FSU camera game. I think I might have spotted a trend that could be tough for those interested in FEDs Zokis and Kievs.

Since I have begun purchasing and researching Soviet cameras the cost of lenses appear to be rising. I haven't confirmed this yet. I intend to do a search of completed sales of Jupiter 8 and Jupiter 3 lenses.

I seem to recall back in early January (2005) that these could be found for less than $50 US. Now I am seeing low end prices starting in the $50s. A change in exchange rates? Pardon my ignorance- is the Ukraine part of the EU? Thereby accounting for the increase. Or, is it likely that Ukrainians are following the sales trends on ebay?

I have also noticed that the Industar 61s are rising in cost slightly. If sold sans camera, the 61s can cost more than the FED 5b's including an Industar 61.
 
There seem to be some different sellers of J-8's now.

The Russian/Ukrainian vendors who were offering $30 black J-*'s don't seem to be listing them now.
 
Yes prices increase and no Ukraine is not in the EU, not yet but soon !
Here are the common prices on ebe for a GOOD lens, with no heavy marks :
(Contax mount) J-8 5 to 35$ J-9 50 to 120$ J-12 15 to 45$ J-11 20 to 60 $
Some reputable sellers : sibir_sergey alex-photo kubanoid cupog.
Prefer older lenses made by KMZ (1950's) but they are rare now, eventualy Lytcarno factory, arsenal factory.
A little bit more for the J-12 in LTM. (sold one last week and now regret it (1960)
I've fall in FSU gear and yes I can say I'm prying it to the skies now, just made 30X40 fiber base enlargement portraits with J-9 and IT'S INCREDIBLE SHARP IMAGES EVEN THE NIKKOR 105mm F/2.5 from my dad was not so sharp...
I forgot just bought a FED 5C with industar 61 LD New from factory seller cupog 25 bucks...I think he has some more...

I'm also full of hesitations for buying a J9, I've just bought on ebay a J3 at 55 $ + 8 $ shipping this we (from 1953)

By the way, When I 'll sell something on ebay, I'll ask you some advice to obtain some nice high prices :)
 
Don't hesitate in buying a J-9 ! LTM or Contax mount ?
I purchased a very fine J-3 for Kiev (1952) but it needed to be reshimed in order to focus correctly...
 
On Contax mount, it's pretty easy to get a good one though the cost is between $75 and $120 these days. I got one with a mount problem for $50, turned the mount to the correct spot and have a screaming portrait lens.

I have heard it's not so simple on the LTM version due to the much more complicated helical used to make it work on that mount. That issues was one of the things that made me go with Kiev rather than Zorki in the first place and I've not looked back since.

What do you mean by "reshimed" Marcel, my english to french dictionary does not have this word. I bought today a J9 from 1952 and I hope focus will be fine.

A few months ago, I bought 2 nice black J8, I offered one to my father and kept one. They never focused accurately, so I tried to dismount mine, the result ending on sunday night by the aperture ring being unable to move again, so no more aperture choice, and some lost screws. Well this lens is good for bin now. I then decided to buy an old J9.

I've read some web pages to fix old lens but it's not easy at all , with a magnify.

A shim is a thin piece of metal used as a spacer, as in a camera lens mount. It can also be used a a verb, the action of applying or removing shims. "Shimmed" would be past tense. "Reshimmed" then just means he applied/removed shims again, presuming it had been done before at the factory.
 
Thank you very much Doug, I finally found the verb "shim" within my dictionary. It's not easy to find a piece of glass to put instead of the film and then try fo focus with the lens and simultaneously looking at the glass with a magnify to "reshim" it so as to make sure that rangefinder agrees with real focus.

BTW, I'm just back from a restaurant where I had some duck (magret de canard) with foie gras (fat duck liver) finishing with an Armagnac...there was no need to reshim :)
 
Hé Laurent j'ai pas trouvé de traduction pour reshimmed, t'as raison, c'est un terme difficile a exprimer en français, le plus proche que j'ai trouvé c'est regler en remettant des rondelles... Bref if you want to repair old lenses you can work on a big glass or mirror in order to hear small screws falling tic ! tic ! It works very bien...
But if you feel you're not able to do it I can fix a lot of russian lenses at reasonnable prices...(woops you can't do commercial ads or anouncements on RFF...Hushhhh !)

Thank you all and sorry for giving this thread another way. I'm gonna keep in mind that Marcel is great to put "rondelles" on lens !

Next time before destroying a lens, I'll try to be patient and ask on the forum.

Laurent, what I use for a ground glass for checking focus on the film rails is a bit of clear plastic cut from an old CD cover, roughened with sand-paper, and taped to the camera...

You can also place some 3M scotch tape on the clear plastic to 'frost' it, only remember that the tape must be on the inner side of the plastic when you put it on the film plane otherwise you'd be adding the plastic thickness to the lens-to-film distance.
 
Thank you all for all your good advice as I had a few looks at some focusing glass on ebay, but it was too expensive for this kind of usage.
