"By seemingly breaking the laws of optics with just 16mm of flange distance, Nikon can now deliver smaller and lighter cameras and lens designs impossible in any other mirrorless system."

Will the new Nikon work better with Leica glass than the Sony cameras?
Form/menu factor definitely is much better, as is build quality.

Very interesting!

Even though the flange to sensor distance is 2mm shorter for the Nikon than the Sony, the flange plus adapter to sensor distance for a Leica lens adapter would be the same, so unless they have optimized the micro lens array as Leica did, I would not expect any improvement. I couldn't comment on the superiority of the ergonomics and menu system over Sony without actually using the Z6/Z7. Can't speak to Sony vs. Nikon build quality either. I rented a Sony A7II and used it for a week, and thought the build quality was fine.

I think what is most important is how thick is Nikon's sensor glass?
Sony provides the sensors... but perhaps to Nikon's specs?

The way I read this is that the sensor is different suggesting that the shallow angle of light coming in at the edge of the frames is less of a problem and this does suggest that it could be better with other lenses.

I agree that it's very interesting!

The correct answer is anything with a native M-mount. Adapting M-mount is tom-foolery. ;)

But that wasn't the question. This topic is about how the Nikon Z may work with M glass.:)
There are quite a few people out there who have a whole assortment of different lenses/mounts and want one body to work with all of them. And others who may already have M lenses but want a non Leica body to use them on, due to the price factor of new M cameras, the absolutely horrendous support if service is required (in the USA), or want a more current (and higher MP) sensor than what Leica offers.

my thoughts indeed...

Wait till Sigma brings out that mirrorless FF foveon with M mount beauty.

Problem is they will be asking 4 to 5 grand USD for body only.

Light leak

Light leak

What do they mean by this?:

"Due to the construction of the Leica M bayonet, uncorrectable imaging errors may appear during longer exposure times"

What do they mean by this?:

Most likely light leak between lens flange to adapter surface during long exposure, this can and does happen in adapter/lens connection.
