scan the IT8 with 48bit Vuescan to RAW TIFF file, then you create profile that you apply before using CF Colorperfect?

This is what I intend to do, I believe it's the right way to do it - to make sure of the integrity of the inverted colours before using ColorPerfect. I am not so sure applying a profile after inversion would be accurate as there would be no proper way to relate what the scanner output is compared to the output of CP.

Edit: In fact, having done rather more research, applying IT8 profiling to a negative scan is a total waste of time! Subsequently, I have simply assigned a profile (sRGB) in Photoline, inverted and colour corrected.

Processing times on my PC have reduced a lot after upgrading from 4GB to 16 GB. 6x6 scans are now finished almost instantaneous after scanning, but 6x7 and larger scans still take time (though not nearly as long as this filmscanner.info site measured.

Either the Plustek got serious quality control problems, no quality control or I was not sold a new scanner to begin with.

I am pretty sure you will never be happy with this scanner.

In my faulty scanner this resulted in apparent stripes lines whatever you call them in dark regions of the slides. I think the full profile can't use linear gamma it must be created afterwards processing with CF Colorperfect with no changes to defaults with linear gamma, then you run CF Colorperfect again and select G gamma instead of linear.

Perhaps it's only silverfast bug but resolutions have difference in color, I would make sure this doesn't happen in vuescan before using profiles.

My PC is dual Xeon 3.8Ghz with 8GB ram, I'm sure it should work with the scanner maybe not instantaneous but very well .

Why is that I will not be very happy? can optical instruments be assembled in a garage or a shed of some sort? All is required that it at least turns on and makes some images?

A typical home for any allergic person can't be cleaner than Plustek assembly factory in TAIWAN, or do you imply otherwise?

my sentiments exactly!!
they did not reply to my emails, too.
it seems to me that they are not very happy about a scanner which could be on the same level than the CS9000.
my OF 120 has at least the same resolution as the coolscan 9000.
i did a directly comparison.

my scanning-times at very high resolutions are in usual time range, but "processing" (SF) takes some time.
maybe the performance of my laptop is not high enough? any suggestions? (8GB built in Ram)

with Vuescan the plustek is pretty fast:

Mac Mini (Core 2 Duo):

Scan slide 5300 DPI: 1:20
Scan slide +IR dust reduction: 3:14

The Vuescan is very fast and does not use more than 500mb RAM in my test scanning 35mm slides. Works even on my laptop !

The only thing missing is multi-exposure like silverfast. I compared a dark slide scanned with silverfast+ME and vuescan. The difference is clear the shadow details a way better with silverfast, but the scan is visibly more blurry. Can anyone do similar test ?

It's late, and I've just done my first scan with the 120. This is 6x6 colour negative with Vuescan and ColorPerfect. Two questions:

1) Despite moving the negative around in the holder, I can't seem to scan the top of the required frame. What's the trick?

2) I have greenish vertical lines in the sky. Do you think this could be a developing problem or the scanner? I won't get around to doing another scan tonight as it's been put away for the moment.

Those first scans look Ok Pete, the yellow green is that more of a stain? I can't see a defined line that scanners tend to make.

Years ago when I owned a dip and dunk you'd get that stain on E6 when the conditioner was under active and on C41 if the acidity of the bleach dropped-essentially due to carry over of developer-how was it processed?

If you're doing it yourself put a 5% solution of acetic acid in your bleach.

Try a different negative from another roll.

The lines are faint and along the length of the film/carrier. It wasn't home developed, but it was developed at a lab I decided to give up on. I'll try another neg tonight.

Is this something to do with the X Y setting under CROP?

VueScan works superbly well (I use 9.3.19).
It allows you to preview the whole holder at once, adjust everything and let it scan.

Speeds my work flow up considerably 🙂

What's your workflow for this?

I'm running this scanner purely on Vuescan with the Plustek drivers. Do you think installing Silverfast will bring any new drivers to the table?

Plustek are regarding it as a hardware issue and have suggested replacement.

It alters position depending on neg orientation. The scanner is being collected and replaced on Monday. Imad@Plustek, Mark Drusiak, and the company I bought it from have been excellent regarding this problem.

Tested one at work on some Pro 160NS (6x7), doesn't touch the Flextight, but it is very good for 120, and still quite capable for 35mm. I think I got up to 70 lp/mm off it at the extreme end.
