The OFFICIAL Plustek 120 post your scans

Doesn't look at all to be the negatives fault.
There seem to be some of these scanners where the optic isn't calibrated correctly.

Do a google translate of this post by a Plustek sales manager: http://www.aphog.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=219775#p219775

Do you really think I have the problem, because I can get sharp scans:

I see some slight vertical banding (faint vertical lines, 1 pixel wide) in all your scans.

I hope they go away at 10600. And/or with a firmware update. :-(

Another blast from the past, this was another shot from 1991, I am pretty sure it was shot with a cheap ass zoom.

35mm Ektar 100, scanned at 2650dpi as jpeg, minimal sharpening, isrd, no ME.

No adjustments outside Silverfast, no output sharpening in LR , but sharpening settings were 30/.08/mask 93 in the develop module ( plus a little amount in SFast)

I hope this helps, but soon I hope to have better examples!

By looking at your sample, and after having sent some images to XFer, it seems that johnny.moped was right about my scanner (out of focus)... If this is confirmed, I will contact Plustek to see what they can do...

Where are you located?

I think I read they caught this problem before shipping to the USA. Anyway, I am pretty happy so far 🙂

Take care

I have the Nikon CS9000. It took me a while to get a decent scan out of the thing, but now I think I have it under control.

I should think, if you can scan down to the point the film grain is visible, the scanner has done it's job quite well. These scans seem to have done that.

If these scans are an indication of the output from this scanner, we have a potential winner here.

Based on what I have seen here I'd buy it, if I didn't have what I have now.

That, and the fact that 10600 probably enables halfstep carriage advancement (more precise transport) thus hopefully giving better sensor line alignment.

X2. I'd like to see a few more successes, though. It does seem to take a while to sort out scanners.

The Ciro-Flex shot above looks good, but I'd like to see a few more 'known-good' shots at best aperture and slower film, etc. A few comparative scans with a Coolscan and Epson on the same negative would be useful, too.

I am happy with it so far, but I also am waiting for a real professional review, with some tips and things to avoid etc. Next week I will be scanning more current film work, and b&w. Things photographed with better lenses and modern day film.

The example bellow, is Kodak Royal 25. from 1994. Tripod, timer, no mirror lock up I am sure.... It would have been nice to have exposed it better...

Minimal sharpening, ( both a little in SF plus a little more in LR ) , iSRD engaged, no grain reduction, or noise reduction. LR adjustments are just minimal, just some color, black point, contrast. All minimal.

File size came to be 7388 x 4961

Silverfasts iSRD is indeed utmost crap. Even when it works it looks awful.

Some more, this time a 6x6 made with a Rolleicord. I had to downscale them slightly for flicker, so they are "just" 10,000x10,000 and 11,000x11,000:

ah, so finally an image of myself without a helmet of some sort 🙂

Geez, Fabio. The boat images look good! That's about all I'd expect from 35mm; those are big crops. Rock shadows hanging on, but I don't know how well Royal 25 held, either (this looks like slide film).

My experience with Silverfast is that it works, but is very difficult and time consuming to sort out.

Charlie,

Thanks,
my understanding, is that Royal 25 was a better newer version of Ektar 25, it was a negative film, not slide.

I miss it! But I have realized that 22 years ago, my exposures weren't all that great, and a lot of my shots were a bit under exposed...

And yes, it seems to me Silverfast can deliver, but getting there is time consuming to learn it all. For B&W it seems super easy.

I have had a few frames of modern ektar 100 where it seems to botch a few pixels here and there, almost as if missing them. But we are tallking about 100% zoom on a huge 35mm scan.

I sure want to see a review by someone who has vast experience scanning.
