The Official RFF FIFA World Cup 2010 Thread

Plucky North Korea, rather fancy their chances against Portugal and the Ivory Coast. Good sportsmen too, no theatrics or dirty stuff, just plain honest football, if rather defensively oriented (we Norwegians are no strangers to that sort of tactic). :D

North Korea played very good against the 5 times Soccer World Champion, Brazil. I am not at all sure Brazil will make it to the finals. But watch Germany!

Anyone here who are in South Africa....?

Both goals from Brazil were team work, both with great passing shots before the goals. Maicon's will be one of the best goals of the whole cup.

Can Brazil be bettet? Of course... Playing against better teams...

Argentina, Brazil and Germany have been the ones I've liked the most... Tomorrow we'll se if Spain is as good as lots of people say... I don't think so...

Cheers,

Juan

C. Ronaldo has been voted player of the day? what the hell? for several cheap dives, causing yellow cards for other players who didn't even touch him? for losing almost every one on one situation? for ONE single good shot? bollocks.

Damn that goal from Korea! I had a bet going for the result being 2:0 and was two minutes away from winning!

Brazil could've played better but hopefully they're just warming up. As said, I expected a 2:0 so I wasn't expecting much. Korea played an ok game game but nothing extraordinary. They played VERY defensively so it was bound to be an unexciting game. As Juan said, Brazil will play better when they play better teams.

I agree, never liked his demeanor, too full of himself. He´s a very good player at his best, but others are more sympathetic, easier to like. Messi for instance.

Yes, bollocks (whatever they are) for Ronaldo.
Brazil made some beautiful attacks, with deft passing, but most fizzled out when they reached the North Korean fullbacks.
Brazil also was LAZY on defense at times. They gave up one score for such folly. Brazil will win its group, but if the defense does not wake up in the knock-out rounds ...

I don't understand either why some people like Ronaldo... He's fast and makes some goals, yes, but he doesn't belong to the cracks league: he doesn't surprise like Messi or Pele, and he doesn't handle space and others' movement for incredible passing shots as real cracks do... And his ball control is not very high either...

Not that I play better than him... :)

Cheers,

Juan

For most casual observers of football, the mere fact that he is capable of scoring goals at will is enough to place him above most other players. Add to the fact that he made a name for himself at the biggest club in the world, playing in the most-watched football league in the world guarantees his place as one of the most popular and bankable players in recent memory.

Whether that makes him better than other players is another thing.

I you look at history, the first round usually means nothing. Be it Italy in 82 or France in 98, they barely qualified playing lousily and ended up as World Champions with brilliant performances.
Spain and Netherlands have a history of starting strong but never finish the job.

Very difficult to make any pronostics based on the first matches, and that is the beauty of the World Cup.

They're round rough hewn stones, a little over 2" across that Roman infantry would use to defend a ditch and palisade fortification with, primitive but pretty effective I would imagine ...

What do you expect from the Swiss this year?

Name game of the tournament so far....Honduras v Chile

I was listening to the game on the radio on the way into work and the call of the game as the ball was advanced from player to player is so lyrical.
